P. M. C. Winder, W. M.
1874-1875
Bro. P.M.C. Winder, who was generally called Peter Winder, was our first Worshipful Master. He was born May 19, 1826, in Alabama. His parents were farmers, and moved to Panola county, Texas, in 1839. He married Miss Keren Herrin near Carthage in 1846. They reared nine children all of whom are dead except Mack Winder of Nacogdoches and Bill Winder of Livingston. He has number of other descendants in Nacogdoches County. He took the three degrees in Masonry at Pine Hill lodge No. 95 in 1862. He then moved to Mt. Enterprise lodge No. 60. He next moved his membership to Murrell Lodge No. 162 where he was Master in 1871. In 1873 he helped organize Brushy Lodge No. 367 of which he was the first Worshipful master. But at this time he lived in the Sand Flats of Nacogdoches county, so in 1874 he became the moving spirit in organizing Golden Drain lodge which was located within about four miles of his Sand Flat residence, and where he was again made first Worshipful Master. He was a blacksmith by trade. Had a splendid Civil War record, and was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. He died in Nacogdoches County, Jan. 1, 1906 and is buried at Pleasant Hill. The lodge has procured his picture and had it enlarged and swung in the lodge hall. 3
