Registered will of John Winder of Lancashire, October 15, 1817

I John Winder of Skerton in the County of Lancaster Staymaker do make and publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say In the first place I order and direct that all my just debts funeral expenses and the charge of the Probate of this my Will shall be fully paid. I give and devise unto Grace Winder the Widow of my Nephew John Winder late of Skerton aforesaid Blacksmith deceased for and during the term of her natural life the messuage or dwellinghouse she now lives in with the garden and appurtenances thereto belonging situate in Skerton aforesaid and from and immediately after her Decease I give and devise the same premises unto John Ann and Eleanor the children of my said Nephew John Winder their heirs and assigns forever to take and hold the same as tenants in common and not joint tenants. I give and devise unto my esteemed friends Robert Aldren of Skerton aforesaid Maltster and Isaac Dixon of Skerton aforesaid Cordwain!
er and William Wright of Skerton aforesaid House Carpenter their heirs and assigns for ever all other of my messuages buildings lands grounds hereditaments and real estate whatsoever situate within Skerton aforesaid and elsewheresoever upon the several trusts and for the purpose hereinafter mentioned that is to say Upon trust that they my said Trustees or the Survivor of them or his heirs shall and do with all convenient speed after my Decease sell and dispose of all my said real estate except such part thereof as I have hereinbefore devised as aforesaid for the benefit of my said deceased Nephews Widow and children to the best advantage in their or his judgement either by public sale or by private contract and either together or in parcels and grant convey and ____ the same unto the purchaser or purchasers thereof his her or their heirs and assigns forever And it is my Will and Mind and I do order and direct that the receipt or receipts of my said Trustees or the survivo!
r of them or his heirs for the purchase or consideration money for all or any part of my real estate hereby directed to be sold as aforesaid shall be good and sufficient receipts and discharges for the same and that the respective purchaser or purchasers shall not be afterwards answerable or accountable for any misapplication or nonapplication thereof and as to the monies arising by means aforesaid upon Trust after paying the expenses of any sale or sales which may be made of my said real estate and a reasonable compensation to each of my said Trustees for all their care trouble and loss of time thereout to pay the following Legacies or sums of money to the persons after mentioned to each and every of whom I give and bequeath the same that is to say to my sisters Elizabeth Chambers, Margaret Whinray, Ann Winder and Christiana Gregson each the sum of five pounds to my nieces Dorothy Muschamp, Margaret Archer, Margaret Hill, Mary Fryer and Mary Haworth each the sum of five po!
unds, to Sarah Wright of Skerton aforesaid Widow the sum of fifty pounds, to my nephew William Bevenson (?) Winder, to my niece Agnes Whinray, to the said Isaac Dixon and to the said William Wright of Skerton aforesaid Housecarpenter each the sum of ten pounds and to the said John Ann and Eleanor the said children of my said Nephew John Winder deceased each the sum of five pounds And as to the remainder of the monies to be raised by the means aforesaid and also the monies to be raised from my personal estate upon this further Trust to place the same out at interest upon one or more apparent good real or personal security or securities and call in and again place the same out at interest as they or he shall think most proper and pay the interest as annual proceeds thereof unto the said Grace Winder or her assigns for and during the term of her natural life And from and immediately after her decease then upon Trust that they my said Trustees or the survivor of them or his !
heirs shall and do call in such money so placed out at interest as aforesaid and divide and pay unto and equally amongst the said John Ann and Eleanor (children of my said Nephew John Winder deceased) to whom I give and bequeath the same, but in case any of them the said children of my said Nephew John Winder deceased shall happen to die before his her or their share or shares of the money shall become due and payable leaving lawful issue such issues shall have and be entitled to the same share as their deceased Parent would have had or been entitled to if living equally amongst them if more than one child share and share alike But in case of any of their deaths without issue then the share of him her or them so dying shall go to and be equally divided amongst the survivors and the issue of such as may be dead such issue to have the same share as his her or their deceased Parent would have had if living equally amongst them share and share alike to whom I hereby give and b!
equeath the same. And I hereby further will order and direct that my said Trustees and Executors shall not be answerable or accountable for the other of them but each of them for his own Acts Deeds and Defaults only and not otherwise. I appoint the said Robert Aldren Isaac Dixon and William Wright Executors hereof and hereby revoke all former and other Wills by me made. In Witness whereof I the said John Winder the Testator have hereto set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand eight hundred and fourteen. , James Wilcockson, J Webster) On the fifteenth day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen This Will of John Winder late of Skerton in the County of Lancaster and within the Archdeaconry of Richmond in the Diocese of Chester Staymaker deceased who died on the 25 August 1817 was proved in common form and Robert Aldren of Skerton Maltster and ex one of the Executors therein named was sworn well and faithfully to execute and perform the same and so forth and Isaac Dixon one other of the Executors therein named being of the Sect called Quakers took a solemn Affirmation Power being reserved for William Wright the other executor therein named and that according to the best of the Knowledge Information and Belief of the said Robert Aldren and Isaac Dixon the whole of the Goods Chattels and Credits of which the said John Winder died possessed within the Archdeaconry of Richmond in the Diocese of Chester exclusive of what the said Testator might !
have been possessed of or entitled to as a Trustee for any other person or persons and not beneficially and without deduction of any Thing on Account of the Debts due and owing by and from the said Testator were under the value of Twenty Pounds
