William participated in the Jacobite uprisings of 1715 as a supporter of Prince James the Pretender.  He reportedly escaped to Virginia, but as many other Jacobite prisoners were deported to the Maryland Colony, I would investigate whether he was one of them.

William settled Anderson Bottom on the North Branch of the Potomac River

He participated in the battles under Braddock in the 1750's.

Dear Patrick:

In my haste to write you I didn't realize I had information about other Andersons in Adams County that might be useful to you. In our research regarding Nathaniel we found information about a Priscilla Anderson. As Priscilla is a much easier name to track I entered it into your gedcom file and came up with a James and Priscilla from Hampshire

County Virginia who just MIGHT be connected. What we found:

Direct deeds, 1797 to 1853

Anderson, Prescilla to West Union Trustees, vol. 4, 130, 3/16/1804, 5 A.

from Anderson, Prescilla to Richardson, Ebenezer, vol. 4, 3/13/1843, 120

acres, Brush Creek [this is the same area where Nathaniel owned land]

Probate Office, West Union Courthouse, Book of Wills

Priscilla J. Anderson will, June 14, 1862, p. 414

brother William H. Anderson

nieces Priscilla [and?] Susan Powell

sister Lucinda, Deborah M., Martha, Mary Ann

John H. Anderson, James M. Anderson

I regret that those are the only notes I can find right now.
