Discussion

These are two branches of the early James River Anderson family headed by Robert Anderson and William Anderson and who are believed to be descendents of Richard Anderson born 1585.William Anderson lived along the Poroptank River between it and the Rappahanock Road whish is now Virginia State Route 17. William's descendents apparently stayed above the Pamunkey River as they moved inland.  Robert Anderson was a landowner north of current Mechanicsville between Tottopotomies Creek, Crumps Creek and Mechumps Creek as early as 1666.
