The Will of Thomas Hanson of Long Lee, Keighley, Yorkshire

June 3, 1824

        This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Hanson of Long Lee in the Parish of Keighley and county of York, Farmer. First I will and direct that all my just debts, funeral expenses and the expences of proving this my last will be first paid by my Executors, hereinafter mentioned, out of my freehold cottages or dwellinghouses and I hereby direct and authorize my Executors to receive the rents of the said Houses until such debts and expences are paid. I give and bequeath all my Household furniture, farming stock, Husbandry gears unto my sons, Thomas Hanson and Jesse Hanson and it is my will and mind that they should have the Farm now occupied by me under Lord George Cavendish and that Thomas should have the House I now live in and Jesse the house occupied by James Rhodes and I further will that they shall pay thereout unto my son Joseph Hanson the sum of Twenty pounds six years after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my wife Nancy the yearly sum of five pounds during the term of her natural life in lieu of all clam of dower or thirds and also all claim she may have to the Farm, which annuity I direct shall be paid as follows: namely my sons Joseph, Thomas and Jesse shall pay the yearly sum of one pound apiece and the remaining two pounds shall by paid out of my freehold cottages or dwellinghouses. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary, the wife of Christopher Smith, the yearly sum of one pound and ten shillings during her natural life to be paid as hereinafter mentioned and immediately after he decease or as soon after as her youngest child attains the age of twenty one years. I give and bequeath the sum of thirty pounds to be equally divided amongst all the children of my said daughter Mary, share and share alike which said sum of thirty pounds I direct shall be paid out of my freehold property in manner hereinafter mentioned. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Betty, the wife of Thomas Rhodes, and her heirs and assigns for ever, all that cottage or dwellinghouse situate ate the Top of Blind Lane in Keighley now occupied by Isaac Holmes and I direct she shall pay thereout the yearly sum of ten shillings to my daughter Mary during her life and after her death or as soon after as her youngest child attains the age of twenty one years. I direct she shall pay unto the children of my daughter Mary the sum of ten pounds as part of the legacy of Thirty pounds hereinbefore bequeathed to them. Unto my son Thomas Hanson, his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath all that cottage or dwellinghouse now occupied by William Rhodes situate at Blind Lane aforesaid and I direct that he shall pay the yearly sum of ten shillings unto my daughter Mary during her life and the sum of ten pounds unto her children at her decease or so soon after as her youngest child attains the age of twenty one years. Unto my son Joseph Hanson, his heirs and assigns forever I give and bequeath that cottage or dwellinghouse situate at Blind Lane aforesaid and now occupied by Jonas Bayley and I direct that he shall pay thereout the sum of five shillings yearly unto my daughter Mary during her life and the sum of five pounds among her children at her decease or as soon after as her youngest child attains the age of twenty one. Unto my son Samuel Hanson and his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath the House occupied by Susan Rhodes situate also in Blind Lane aforesaid. Unto my son James Hanson and to his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath all that cottage or dwellinghouse now occupied as two cottages by John Holmes and John Terry situate in Blind Lane aforesaid and I direct that he shall pay thereout the yearly sum of five shillings unto my daughter Mary during her life and the sum of five pounds unto her children at her decease or so soon after as the youngest attains the age of twenty one years. Unto my son Jesse Hanson and his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath that cottage now occupied by Joseph Tyler[?] situate in Blind Lane aforesaid. Unto my daughter Sally, the wife of William Moorhouse, I give and bequeath the cottage occupied by Charlotte Butterfield situate also in Blind Lane to hold to her, her heirs and assigns for ever and I further direct that none of my children shall have power to sell the lands bequeathed to them until twenty years after my decease. And lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint William Rhodes of Keighley, Weaver, and my two sons Thomas Hanson and Jesse Hanson joint Executors and trustees of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made. In witness whereof I have to the two first sheets of paper set my hand and to the third and last my hand and seal this third day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four.

Codicil
March 25, 1833

        Whereas I Thomas Hanson of Long Lee in the parish of Keighley in the county of York, Farmer, have made and duly executed my last will and Testament in writing bearing date the third day of June one thousand eight hundred and twenty four, now I do hereby declare this to be a codicil to my said will and I do direct the same to be annexed thereto and to be taken as part thereof and whereas I did in my said will give and bequeath unto my wife Nancy the yearly sum of five pounds during the term of her natural life in lieu of all claim of dower or thirds and also all claim she might have to the Farm I did then and do now occupy and which I directed should be paid as follows, namely my sons Joseph, Thomas and Jesse should pay the yearly sum of one pound apiece and the remaining two pounds should be paid out of my freehold cottages or dwellinghouses. Now I do direct that my said sons, Joseph, Thomas and Jesse shall pay unto my said wife Nancy during the term of her natural life provided she give up all claim to the Farm and premises I do now occupy and not otherwise, the further sum of five pounds in addition to the five pounds named in my said will to be divided and paid to her weekly and every week during her life as aforesaid and I do direct that they, my said sons Joseph, Thomas and Jesse shall pay the same to her accordingly. In witness whereof I have to this codicil se my hand and seal the twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three.
