Notes on Effie Louise Day

From the Oelwein Daily Register, March 1934.

MRS. FRED HOUGH--OBITUARY

Effie Louisa Day, daughter of Seymour and Eliza Day, was born April 10, 1864, on a farm southeast of Oelwein, and passed away at her home in Oelwein on Saturday evening, March 24, 1934, at the age of 69 years, 11 months, and 14 days.
She was united in marriage to Fred W. Hough on April 30, 1884, and at the time of her death was within a few weeks of reaching the golden wedding anniversary. They began farming just east of Oelwein where they resided for thirty-six years. In 1922 they moved to Oelwein where they have continued to reside ever since.
Having resided within the city of Oelwein or near by all her life, she surrounded herself with many very close friends, who will miss her and with whom a blessed memory will abide for years to come. She was a member of the Pythian Sister Temple and the Maple Grove Club which she attended until failing health prevented. She was of a cheerful disposition, a devoted wife, loving mother and good neighbor and friend. While she had her other interest she gave her heart to her home in which she took much pride.
She leaves to mourn her departure and revere her memory, her devoted husband, three daughters--Mrs. Earl Ames, Mrs. Jack McCauley, and Mrs. Harold Alsip; one son--Ben D. Hough. All living in or near Oelwein. She also leaves two brothers--W. H. Day of Waterloo and George A. Day of Oelwein, one sister--Mrs. R. D. McDonald of Tacoma, Washington, (One sister, Mrs. Alice Sackville, preceded her in death thirteen years ago); seven grandchildren and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors.
          May she rest in peace.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, March 27, at 2:30 P. M. conducted by the pastor of the church, Rev. L. W. Hauter. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in charge of Rev. R. J. Voelker, pastor of the Lutheran church.--Con.
