C SMITH
CHRISTOPHER SMITH
Christopher Smith was Clerk
of the Jamestown church and teacher of Indian children at William and Mary
College in Williamsburg in 1706. He was married to
Lydia _________
Broadribb, widow of William Broadribb who died in James City County in
1703. Since a son was named Roger, it suggests that an earlier Roger Smith
who came to Jamestown in 1616 on the George might have been Christopher's
grandfather. (The descendents of Roger Smith , an "Ancient Planter", have
not been established. His wife was Joane Pierce, daughter of William Pierce
and the widow of John Rolfe.) Another son of Christopher was named Joshua
Ambrose.
The son, Roger Smith, died
in Brunswick County in 1735 leaving a will naming his wife as Mary
__________ and naming the following children: Christopher, who died in
1767; Ambrose, who died in 1761; William; Eade; Benjamin; and three daughters,
unnamed, who married Col. John
Maclin, Jacob Jones, and John Hunt.
Eade Smith was married to Mary ________ (widow of William Davis) and their children were Malinda (married Thomas Smith), Mary (married Andrew Jeter), Olive (see below), Drucilla (who married Peter Turner) and anther daughter who married ______ Howard. Her children, who survived her, were Gabriel, Cuthbert, Charles, Polly and
Olive.
Olive Harrison, married back
into the Smith family: Stephen Smith. (see Smith,
N. ) It is unknown whether these two
Smith families are related.
