       The records of Essex County state that Robert Brooke, Sr. was commissioned a Justice of the peace by Governor Nicholson in 1692 and served in the court until 1708. He and his brother Richard are believed to have been the sons of William Brooke, Clerk of Essex County in 1665.

       A Robert Brooke, Jr., son and heir of Robert Brooke, Sr. was a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe and Deputy Clerk in Essex until 1708.

            The Jones Family Reunion Association records our Brooks family with a Robert in the same generation, but in Charles City County.  This  Robert Brooks and his wife Ann Hickman, daughter of William (?) and Elizabeth Hickman were in Charles City County prior to June 1692.

       Robert Brooks Jr. (1723-September 6, 1806) was a private in the Revolutionary War, noted for Patriot military service. He was married twice: (1) Bramley Wade and (2) Abigail Hicks. His children were Wade, Robert , Rose, Lucy, Sarah, Molly, Rebecca, Penelope, Winifred and Jincy.

       The daughter , Rebecca Brooks (1760s-?) was married on December 24, 1790 to David Winn Thomas.
