GERARD or GERRARD HOPKINS, planter, of Anne Arundel Co., Md., came into the Province about the middle of the 17th century. His will is dated 12th Oct. 1691, and he d. prior to 1st Mar. 1693-4. He was probably the founder of his branch of the HOPKINS family in Maryland and may have been of the John HOPKINS family of Virginia (which, with the CHEWS, GERRARDS and others, came into Virginia very early in the 17th century), as his descendants bear the same arms as HOPKINS of Virginia.
