Albert J. Ahern Sr.
Seymour—Albert J. Ahern Sr., husband of Mrs. Susan O'Callaghan Ahern of 15 Garden St., died Monday night at Griffin Hospital, Derby, after a long illness. Born in Seymour, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Mary Bunyan Ahern and had resided in Seymour all of his life. He was an army veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Cavalry. He was a retired employe [sic] of Farrel Corp. of Ansonia, where he had worked as a security guard. He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church and a past commander of Emil Senger Post, American Legion of Seymour, a member of the Seymour Police Department and a member of the State Police Association.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Albert J. Ahern Jr. of Seymour, a former legislative reporter for The Register and presently an aide to Gov. John N. Dempsey; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Shean of Scotia, N.Y.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A military funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Anthony Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave., Seymour, and at 9 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church for a requiem high mass. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery.

Henry Ahern
Mr. Henry Ahern, husband of Ernestine Plante, last address 698 St-Louis Street died in Terrebonne, the 9th day of February 1970, at the age of 77 years. The viewing will be held at the St-Louis Funeral Home and the funeral will be held Friday the 13th of February at the l'eglise paroissiale de Terrebonne. Followed by the burial at the Terrebonne Cemetery. Besides his wife the deceased leaves behind his sons Marcel (wife Therese Plante), Lucien (wife Fleurette Juneau), Real (wife Therese Legault), Paul (wife Francoise Bergeron), and Albert and Eugene Thibault. His daughters Gemma (Mr. Etienne Lespas), Marguerite, (Mr. Arthur Matte), Jeannette, (Mr. Paul Gregoire), Lucienne (Mr. Emmanuel Cherrier), Jeanne, (Mr. Lucien Richard), Therese, (Mr. Roger Audet), Jeanne d'Arc (Mr. Marc Crespin), Pierrette (Mr. Guy Lambert), Denise (Mr. Julien Plamondon), Monique (Mr. Hugh Haliday), and Mrs. Yves Raymond Ahern. He also leaves behind 40 grandchildren.

Thomas E. Ahern, Sr.
A requiem Mass for Thomas E. Ahern, 80, of 65 Orchard st., Cambridge, will be offered at 9 a.m. tomorrow in St. John's Church, Cambridge. Mr. Ahern, former Cambridge city assessor and a prominent real estate man, died Monday at New England Deaconess Hospital. He took control of his father's real estate business in 1922, and merged with Derwick and Flanders in 1950. He was an honorary life member of North Cambridge Knights of Columbus, a member of Cambridge Elks and a trustee of Cambridge Hospital. He was a trustee of the East Cambridge Savings Bank and was City Assessor from 1946 to 1954. Mr. Ahern enlisted in the Army in World War I and was discharged as a lieutenant. He leaves his wife, Nora (McLean); a son, Thomas E. Jr. of New Mexico; a daughter, Mary C. Ahern of New York and a sister, Mrs. Mary Donovan of Watertown. [see also: Dr. John J. Joseph O'Hearn
GARDNER—Joseph O'Hearn, 84, formerly of 258 Main St., died Thursday in the Parker Hill Nursing Home. He was born in Gardner, a son of the late Patrick and Mary (Barry) O'Hearn, and was formerly employed by Gem Crib Industries before his retirement. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Carroll of Ashburnham, and Mrs. Mary Houlihan of Worcester, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Saturday from the Field Funeral Home with a high mass of requiem at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are 7 to 9 tonight.

Herbert L. Ahern
Herbert L. Ahern, 28 Beacon St., died Sep. 4 in Cambridge City Hospital after a short illness. He was 69 years old. Born in Cambridge, he lived in Somerville for more than 22 years. He was a retired meat cutter. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Vigneau), and one son, Leonard P. Ahern. A Solemn High Mass of Requiem was celebrated Sep. 8 in St. Joseph's Church. Funeral was from the Rogers Funeral Home, Cambridge. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Arlington.

John P. Aherne
AHERNE, John P., 92 husband of the late Anna D. Aherne (nee Bradley) died in Valley Forge Hospital, after a short illness. He is survived by his son, Rev. John R. Aherne OSA, his daughter, Mrs Jeanne H. Brady, with whom he had made his home since 1952, son-in-law John J. Brady, grandchildren Jeanne, Jack, Richard, Stephen, Edward and Maureen; also two daughters Sisters Consuelo Maria, SSJ and Jeanne Helene SSJ. His twin brother, Robert survives John. Funeral Mass at the church of St. Francis of Assisi, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1970. Viewing, Tuesday night at McGinnis' on Logan Street at Greene, across from the church.

William L. Ahearn
William L. Ahearn, 83, of 4 Homer Sq., died at Somerville Hospital on Oct. 23, following an accident. A lifelong resident of Somerville, he had been a retired engineer. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Gilvoine) Ahearn; father of Barbara Sadler; brother of Joseph of Somerville and John of Swampscott. The funeral was held on Monday from the Anthony F. Cota & Son Funeral Home, followed by a requiem high Mass in St. Joseph's Church. Burial was in New Cavalry Cemetery, Boston.

James J. Ahearn
ULYSSES, Pa. — James J. Ahearn, 67 of Brookland, Pa., died unexpectedly yesterday, (Dec, 14) at his home. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Rebecca Repperi) Ahearn. he was born June 5, 1903 in Costello, Pa. Mr. Ahearn was a retired highway worker. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Whitney, Knoxville, Pa.l and Mrs. Kathern [sic] Clark, Brookland, Pa.; three brothers, Peter of Whitesville, John of RD Coudersport, and Michael of Brookland, Pa.

Susan L. (Corcoran) Ahern, 81, of 16 Buckingham st., died Dec. 17 after a short illness. Formerly of East Cambridge she has been a resident here for about 15 years. She was the mother of Janet F. Michael E. Ahern
Michael E. Ahern, 29, of 109 Dover st., Medford died yesterday at University Hospital in Boston. He was chief chemical technician for the Cardinal Cushing Hospital of Brockton and was formerly with the Boston University Medical Center and the South Shore Hospital. Mr. Ahern, a native of Medford, was educated at the Marionapolis School in Connecticut and Merrimack College. He was a member of the American Association of Blood Banks and the American Society of Medical Technicians. He leaves his wife, Mary A. (Luddy), a daughter, Michele A., and his mother, Mrs. Beatrice M. (Buss) Ahern-Mackay of Medford. A requiem high Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Medford. Interment will be in the family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Percy G. Ahearn
Private funeral for Percy G. Ahearn of Kentfield was held today in San Rafael. Ahearn, 74, died yesterday at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of California, he had lived in Kentfield since 1946 and was a member of Fairfax Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons. He is survived by his wife Teresa A. Ahearn; two sons, Paul who lives at home, and Christopher of San Rafael; one sister, Mary Teresa Mallory of Sausalito; and one brother, Harold Ahearn of San Rafael. [see also: Aileen Ahearn]

[A Death Notice in the same paper corrects the above to read one daughter, Mary Teresa Mallory. It adds that he was a native of Stockton, and called "Pat". Funeral services were held at Keaton's Mortuary on E street.]

Herbert L. Ahearn
CHELMSFORD—Herbert L. Ahearn of 194 Dalton Road, Chelmsford died Saturday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester, N.H. Born in Lowell, the son of the late James Ahearn and the late Regina (Whalen) Ahearn, he was the husband of Rita F. (Boyle) Ahearn. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He has resided in Chelmsford most of his lifetime and was employed as a truck driver by the Dana Trucking Co. of Lowell. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and held membership in the Teamsters Union No. 49.

Surviving him besides his wife are eight daughters: Mrs. Seth (Joan) Jenkins of Exeter, N.H., Mrs. Robert (Mary Lou) Prescott of North Chelmsford, Mrs. James (Barbara) Gagnon of Chelmsford, Mrs. Richard (Regina) Ferbert of Lowell, Mrs. Larry (Gail) Botts of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. Brian (Marie) Lessard of Lowell, Mrs. Paul (Patricia) Kinney of Lowell and Mrs. Joseph (Rita) DeVicentis of Nashua, N.H.; seven sons: James A. [sic] of Lowell and Frederick G., Herbert L., Edward, John T., Daniel and Bernard Ahearn, all of Chelmsford; a brother: Edward J. Ahearn of Lowell and 21 grandchildren.

Dr. Robert W. O'Hearn

Tampa Fla. Services will be held in Christ the King Church here Monday for Mrs. Joseph W. Taylor Jr., (Formerly Nancy Ahern) a one-time resident of Dorchester. Mrs. Taylor died here after a brief illness Wednesday. She was 50. Born in Dorchester, the daughter of Mrs. John Ahern and the late Dr. John F. Ahern, Mrs. Taylor had graduated from the Jeanne d'Arc Academy in Milton and the Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart. She moved to Tampa 28 years ago. Besides her mother she leaves her husband Dr. Joseph W. Taylor Jr., five daughters, Mrs. Frank Frankland, Mrs. Thomas Rao, and Janet, Katherine and Nora Taylor, all of Tampa, and two sons, Joseph W. Taylor III and Sean Taylor, both also of Tampa. She also leaves six brothers, John of Belmont, Taylor of Quincy, Frederick of Tampa, Michael of Hanover and Philip and Joseph Ahern of Boston.

Maurice F. Ahearn
Maurice F. Ahearn, 91, chairman of the Board of Assessors of the City of Somerville from 1930 to 1951 died yesterday in Marlboro. Active in Massachusetts and Middlesex County Association of Assessors, he served as Somerville Alderman from 1915 to 1918, and was a member of the board of the Somerville Savings Bank. Mr. Ahearn was vice president of the W. B. Hastings Insurance Agency of Cambridge.

Maurice F. Ahearn
Maurice F. Ahearn, an active figure in Somerville politics for many years and a former 80-year resident of 36 Boston Ave., died December 17 in a Marlboro nursing home at the age of 91. Mr. Ahearn served on the Somerville Board of Assessors from 1930 to 1951, part of which time was spent as chairman. He also served as a ward alderman from 1915 to 1918 and was a three-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He was a vice-president of the W. B. Hastings Insurance Agency of Cambridge and a member of the board and a corporator of the Somerville Savings Bank. The husband of the late Margaret J. (Finn) Ahearn, he leaves two sons, Maurice F. Jr. of North Reading and Dr. John Paul Ahearn of Marlboro, and one sister, Catherine T. Ahearn of Somerville. A funeral was held from the Flaherty Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. [see also: John L. Ahearn]

Daniel P. Ahern, 76, of 1 Pearl St. died Dec. 19 after a long illness. A life-long resident of Somerville, he was a retired member of the teamsters union of transportation and business. Mr. Ahern was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret Ahern and is survived by two sisters, Lillian Baird and Olive Clough, both of Somerville. A funeral was held from the A. A. Duncan Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Benedict's Church. Interment was at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.

Albert James Ahern, 77, 2849 Trinidad Way, Tropic Isles, Palmetto, died Saturday in Manatee Memorial Hospital. Born in Oswego, N. Y., he moved to this area from St. Petersburg in 1960. He was retired from Eastman Kodak Co., was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church of Palmetto, VFW Post 9869, Palmetto, and a veteran of World War I.

He leaves his widow, Mollie Ahern; a son, Patrick H. Ahern of Fairport, N. Y.; two sisters, Edith Hyland of East Rochester, N. Y.; and Marion McEachern of Lockport, N. Y.; and three grandchildren. Burial will be in Fairport, N. Y. Lewers and Shannon Funeral Home, Palmetto is handling arrangements.

Late Mr. G. W. Ahern, Mountnugent
Widespread regret has been occasioned by the death of Mr. George Washington Ahern, Quarry House, Ross, Mountnugent, which sad event occurred in Our Lady's Hospital Navan, after a lengthy illness. Aged 76, deceased was a captain in the Sixth Leinster Regiment of the British Army at the age of 21. He was wounded in action at Salonica in France during the first world war. On returning home he drilled the Irish Volunteers in Cavan and later became a captain in the Irish Army. He was District Leader of Kells units of the L.D.F. for a number of years. He was son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Ahern, Ross Quarries, Mountnugent. A talented footballer, he was a battalion champion boxer in the British Army. He also took a keen interest in greyhound racing and was a member of the Ballymacad Hunt. He was brother of the late Mr. W. W. T. Ahern, the noted athlete who was holder of the Meath mile and half-mile titles for a number of years. Another brother, the late Commdt. Fred Ahern, was a former O/C of the Irish Equitation School at McKee Barracks, Dublin. A son, Joseph, was a leading National Hunt jockey in Ireland and England.

He is survived by his widow, Jean, England; Messrs. Joseph Ahern, Oxfordshire, and William Ahern, Philippines (sons); Mrs. Cynthia Gardener, Gloucestershire, and Mrs. Anne Brooks, Leamington Spa (daughters); Messrs. Leo Ahern, Ross Mountnugent, and Richard Ahern, Madrid (brothers); Mrs. Jane Wall, Dublin, Mrs. Anne W. Getty, New York, Mrs. May Leech, Academy St., Navan, and Mrs. Geraldine O'Connor, Dublin (sisters). To them, as to the other relatives, sympathy is extended in their sad bereavement.

There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral which took place from St. Brigid's Church, Mountnugent, to Ballinacree Cemetery. Rev. M. Wall, C.C., Moon, Co. Kildare, officiated at the graveside.

Born July 16, 1915, at Minneapolis, she had been a resident of Cedar Rapids 21 years. She was a saleswoman with Yuill and Co. She was a former fashion editor at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and women's editor at the Gazette. Mrs. Ahern was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran church, formerly publicity chairman for the Red Cross, a member of Delta Zeta sorority, a member of Chapter GM of PEO, and a graduate of the University of Minnesota. Surviving is a son, William Ahern, Cedar Rapids.

Mrs. William G. Ahearn, 90, of 1515-19th St., Two Rivers, a member of a pioneer Two Rivers family, died early Saturday morning at Two Rivers Hospital. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, and at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, the Rev. Robert Rhymer officiating. Mrs. Ahearn, nee Augusta Simonis, was born April 27, 1883, at Two Rivers, daughter of the late J.N. and Catherine Petri Simonis. She was married June 10, 1910, at Two Rivers, to William G. Ahearn. He preceded her in death April 29, 1954. She was a charter member of Catholic Women's Club, Ladies of St. Luke and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Kathryn of Two Rivers, and Mrs. James (Mary Jeanne) Diamond of Chicago; four sons, George, William and John of Two Rivers, and Francis Ahearn of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Becker and Mrs. Peter Karl of Two Rivers; 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Ahearn changed his name of Isidore Goldstein to Ahearn after his parents had objected to his boxing professionally under his family name. He won the American Expeditionary Force's 126-pound boxing title while serving overseas during World War I. He retired from professional boxing after a bout with Al Foreman in 1926. In 1935, Mr. Ahearn became the first licensed promoter when boxing was legalized in the District of Columbia. He staged the first legalized boxing show in Washington.

Eunice Hodgkins (Poland) O'Hearn
Eunice Hodgkins (Poland) O'Hearn, 94, of 861 Washington St., widow of Martin O'Hearn, died last night at the Cape Ann Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Mrs. O'Hearn was born here on Jan. 30, 1881, daughter of Capt. William Howard Poland and Emily Center (Pulsifer) Poland. Her father was master of the stone sloop Albert Baldwin. Mrs. O'Hearn's chief interests were church, lodges and family. She was a member of the Annisquam Village Church, the Village Hall Association, and the Annisquam Sewing Bee. She was active in the affairs of the community, being a familiar figure at the annual village fairs. As a Pythian sister, she was associated with the former lodge in Lanesville, where she served as most excellent chief and later as an honorary member of the Hermion Temple. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Past Chiefs' Association, Seashore Rebekah Lodge and Gloucester Woman's Club. In her youth she studied painting with the well-known marine painer [sic] Parker Perkins, and more recently exhibited her early paintings at the Annisquam Art Gallery. She is survived by a son, W. Elliot O'Hearn of Bevery; a daughter M. Eleanor Curtis, wife of Howard A. Curtis; a granddaughter, Carol E. Hubbard, wife of Jay H. Hubbard of Manchester; two great-grandchildren; five nephews, two nieces; many grandnieces and grandnephews. Her funeral will be in the Annisquam Village Church tomorrow at 2 p.m. At the request of her family there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Annisquam Village Church Memorial Fund. The Pike Funeral Service, 61 Middle St., is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph M. Ahearn, 94, of 4 Homer Square, died Feb 15 after a long illness. A lifelong Somerville resident, he was a retired maintenance worker. SALISBURY—Mrs. Frances (McWeeney) Ahern, 81, of Noble Horizons, widow of Frank G. Ahern, died suddenly Wednesday at her home. She was born in Providence, R. I. Aug. 13, 1893, a daughter of the late Thomas M. and Catherine (McGrane) McWeeney. Prior to moving to Salisbury, she had resided on Porter Hill in Middlebury amd Watch Hill, R. I. Mrs. Ahern was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, class of 1915.

She leaves one son, Thomas G. Ahern of Watch Hill; two daughters, Mrs. Charles E. Spencer of Middlebury and Mrs. Thomas Fry of Wyomissing, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Richard J. Butler of Pompano, Fla., Miss Margaret E. McWeeney of Lincoln, N. H.; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral Mass for Rev. Patrick J. Ahern, 59, former associate pastor of All Saints' Church, Roxbury, will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Church, Somerville. Father Ahern, who served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1961 as a chaplain, died Sunday at Veteran's Administration Hospital, Jamaica Plain, after a long illness. Humberto Cardinal Medeiros will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Eulogist will be Rev. William A. Granville of Sacred Heat, Newton.

Concelebrants will be Revs. Gerald D. Desmond, St. Ann's, Marshfield; Francis P. Connors, St. Joseph's, Needham; Philip G. McConville, Our Lady of Assumption, Marshfield, and A. Elizabeth (Ransom) Ahearn
Funeral services for Elizabeth Ransom Ahearn were held on Tuesday, December 16, 1975, from the Donald J. MacDonald and Son Funeral Home, 270 Main St., Watertown. Her Funeral Mass followed and was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church by the Rev. Vincent P. Mellone, Associate Pastor. Assisting him were Emma Roche, organist, and Claudette Brennan, soloist.

Mrs. Ahearn was born in Newton, a daughter of Frederick W. and Margaret Coen Ransom. She was raised and educated in Watertown and lived here for her lifetime. On Saturday morning, December 13, she died in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Brighton, after a brief illness.

She is survived by a son, Edward W. Ahearn of Watertown; and by four daughters: Gladys Lyman, Evelyn Bloomer, Marie Chamberlain, all of Watertown; and Helen Arenburg of Waltham. Also included in her survivors are 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Rennie of Newton. Her husband, James Francis Ahearn, former Sealer of Weights and Measures in the town of Watertown, died in 1959. Interment followed in the family lot in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown. Committal prayers were offered by Fr. Mellone.

Funeral services for Mary Lillian Ahern, 81, who died Monday at Pleasant View Nursing Home, St. James, where she had been a resident for two years, were scheduled for this Thursday morning at 11:00 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev Lawrence Ginther officiating and interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is at Cummins Funeral Home with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday. Mrs. Ahern was born August 14, 1894 at Albion, Nebraska, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Duffy. She grew up in Nebraska and Iowa, attending school in those states. She married John Ahern January 29, 1917, at Wayne, NE. They came to the Madelia area in 1919 and farmed until moving to Madelia in 1972. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and the Missionary Society.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Francis, Mankato; John C., Madelia; Lawrence, Lewisville; and Albert, Madelia; two daughters, Myrtle, Mrs. Harold Warner, Madelia and Marian, Mrs. Curtis Hanson, Mankato; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Bridgetta Frauenholtz, Madelia. She was preceded in death by one grandson, six brothers and four sisters.

John T. Ahern was born August 26, 1910 to John Thomas Ahern and Eva Cronin Ahern. He is the twin brother of Frederick Ahern of Herkimer, New York and the brother of Edward Ahern of Mohawk, New York. He passed away at Ilion Hospital, Ilion, New York on January 27, 1976. Ella (Swann) Wals
Mrs. Ella Wals, 68, or Norwalk, Calif., died this morning at a Norwalk hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born on June 15, 1907 the daughter of Ulysses and Margaret O'Hearn Swann [sic]. She was a graduate of Waldo High School and St. mary Nursing Hospital, Milwaukee. In 1945 she was married to Reuben Wals in Norwalk. He died in 1967.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Chester McMullen and Mrs. Arno Bartel of Sheboygan; and a brother, Robert Swann [sic] of Norwalk. Private family services will be held Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Norwalk.

Thomas W. Ahern
Thomas Ahern, 68, of 9 Lander av., Lynn, owner and operator of the Ahern Movers and Riggers Co. of Lynn, died yesterday at Saugus General Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Charlestown, and had lived in Medford before moving to Lynn 25 years ago. Mr. Ahern worked in the moving business 50 years. He was a member of the Massachusetts Movers Assn. Mr. Ahern served in the Coast Guard Reserve in World War II. He leaves four sons, Thomas J. of Saugus, Fred G. of Nahant, Richard D. of Lynn and Kevin M. Ahern of Saugus; three daughters, Mrs. Carole Roepsch of Lynn and Mrs. Katherine Powicki and Mrs. Patricia Marsh, both of Swampscott; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Thornton of Somerville, and 13 grandchildren. Evelyn G. (Quinn) O'Hearn, 63, died April 22 in the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital Boston. A switchboard operator at the Somerville Hospital, she was the wife of William J. and mother of Dorothy Sawyer of Medford. She was the sister of John Quinn of Ware, Walter Quinn of Melrose, Henry Quinn and Dorothy Suffredini of Somerville and is also survived by five grandchildren. A Mass in St. Catherine's Church followed the funeral from the Daniel F. O'Brien Funeral Home. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Margaret Marchant, Longtime Teacher, 66
A funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. today in St. Agnes Church, Arlington, for Margaret C. (Ahern) Marchant, 66, a former board member of the Massachusetts Special Education Assn. Mrs. Marchant, of 103 Medford st., Arlington, died early Thursday morning at Symmes Hospital, Arlington, after a long illness. She was born and educated in Arlington. After receiving a bachelor's degree in education from Emmanuel College in 1931 and a master's degree from Boston University in 1932, she taught elementary school in Arlington for about 10 years. After her children had grown she began teaching retarded children in Bedford Junior High School while earning her certification as a special education teacher. She retired from teaching two years ago.

She leaves her husband, Frederick J. Marchant, two Sons, Frederick J. Jr. of Plaistow, N.H., and George C. of Arlington; two daughters, Denise A. Marchant of Arlington and Mrs. Helene M. Butler of Melrose and seven grand-children. [see also: George Edward Ahern, Lena J. (Mannix) Ahern]

Margaret C. (Ahern) Marchant of 104 Medford st. died May 6 at the age of 66. Mrs. Marchant had worked as a special education teacher at Bedford Jr. High School and was a 1931 graduate of Emmanuel College. The wife of Frederick J. Marchant, she was the mother of Frederick J. Marchant Jr. of Plaistow, N.H., George C. Marchant and Denise A. Marchant of Arlington and Helen M. Butler of Melrose. She is also survived by seven grandchildren. Francis A. O'Hearn
   Francis A, O'Hearn, 85, of 14 Hopkins Rd., Arlington, a North Adams native, died Saturday at Symmes Hospital in Arlington. He was the last of his immediate family.
   Mr. O'Hearn was born in North Adams, a son of the late James and Katherine (Reagan) O'Hearn. He attended local schools and was graduated from Drury High School where he played baseball and football. He was with the New England Telephone Co. for two years and then was associated with his late brother, Special Justice William A. O'Hearn, in the operation of a real estate and insurance business under the name of O'Hearn Brothers.
   He gave that up to go to Boston to join the New England Fire Raters Bureau and had lived in Arlington the past 50 years. He was manager of the bureau when he retired in 1956 after 37 years with the concern.
   He was a 30 year Arlington Town Meeting member and a former member of the town's Planning and Development Committee and of the North Adams Council, Knights of Columbus. He was one of the organizers of the Arlington Youth Baseball League.
   He and his wife, the former Kathryn Donovan of Adams, were married Aug, 18, 1915, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1965. Mrs. O'Hearn formerly was a teacher at Mark Hopkins School and at Salem State College.
   Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Marcia Brown of Bedford, and nine grandchildren. A son, Francis D. O'Hearn of East Longmeadow, predeceased him.
   The funeral was at 11 a.m. today with a funeral mass at St. Agnes Church, Arlington. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery there.

Robert Ahearn
Services for Robert Ahearn, 64, publicity representative for Arlington Park race track, were being arranged Tuesday. Mr. Ahearn died Monday while being taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Before joining the Arlington Park race track staff in 1970 Mr. Ahearn was employed by newspapers in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto. He is survived by a sister.

Robert "Bobby" Ahearn
Word was received here today of the death in Arlington, Ill., last Monday of Robert (Bobby) Ahearn, 64, former turf writer for the Boston American and one-time public relations director at Rockingham Park. At the time of his death Mr. Ahearn was chief of public relations for Arlington Park racetrack. He was only 24 years old when he became head of the publicity staff at Rockingham Park when the New Hampshire racing oval was in its infancy. Over the years he was associated with public relations staffs at a number of major tracks throughout the country. These included Bay Meadow, Garden State, Bowie, Fort Erie, Woodbine, Suffolk Downs, Washington Park and the Freehold Raceway harness track.

In addition to the old Boston American, Mr. Ahearn worked for the Los Angeles Daily News, the San Francisco Examiner and Toronto Star. Mr. Ahearn leaves a sister, Mrs. Katherine Slattery of Weathersfield, Conn., and a nephew Paul Slattery of Rochester, N.Y. Services will be conducted at the Fissette funeral home in Hartford, Conn.

Daniel E. Ahern, a retired Hartford pharmacist and pharmaceutical salesman for the Merick, Sharpe and Hohme Co., died on Monday (Aug. 16, 1976) at his home, 120 Folly Brook Blvd. He was born in Hartford and lived there all his life until moving to Wethersfield six years ago. Mrs. Doris Theresa Ahern, 61, of 2123 S. Geddes St., died today at her home after a brief illness. She was a life resident of Syracuse. Mrs. Ahern is survived by her husband, John P. Ahern, five sons, Police Officer Timothy J., the Rev. John V. Ahern of St. James Roman Catholic Church of Syracuse, Thomas M., Police Officer Patrick D. and Daniel E. Ahern, and two daughters, Miss [sic] Mary T. Lynch and Mrs. John Dury, both of Syracuse. Mrs. Ahern was a life member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Ladies Auxiliary of Syracuse. She was a communicant [of] the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Callahan-Hanley-Mooney Funeral Home, and at 10:15 a.m. in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary where Mrs. Ahern's son, Father Ahern, will offer a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

E. Russell Ahearn
Mass for E. Russell Ahearn, 65, former Streator basketball coach, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Streator. Mr. Ahearn, a Streator resident, died Friday at Presbyterian- St. Luke's Hospital. He had coached at schools in six other Illinois towns, including Elgin, Kankakee, Kinsman, Ransom, Woodland, and Hebron. In Hebron, he coached his 1952 team to the state high school championship. Charles V. Ahern
Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday for Charles V. Ahern, 52, of 2749 Bromley Drive, San Carlos, who died Dec. 4 at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City following a lengthy illness. A native of San Fancisco, he had lived in San Carlos for 25 years, and was a staff manager for Pacific Telephone Co., where he had worked for 30 years. He is survived by his widow, Barbara, a son, Charles Ahern, and daughter, Susan Ahern, all of San Carlos, and a brother, Richard Ahern of Fremont.

Services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at White Oaks Chapel in San Carlos, then to St. Matthias Catholic Church of Redwood City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. The Rosary will be recited at the mortuary tonight at 8.

Helen M. (Goodwin) Ahearn, 65, of 26 Hancock Street died Wednesday morning at the Cape Ann Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past seven years. She was the wife of Edward J. Ahearn. Mrs. Ahearn was born in Gloucester on Nov. 11, 1911, daughter of Caleb W. and Lucy P. (Hagan) Goodwin. She worked for many years as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Co. Lea Josephine (Noel) Ahern
Mrs. Lea Ahern, 93, of R. 1, Bitely, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12 at her residence following a long illness. She was born May 12, 1883 at Detroit, the daughter of Joseph and Lea Noel. She joined Robert Ahern in marriage in 1906 in Montreal, Canada. He preceded her in death in 1943.

Survivors include five sons, Robert of Bitely, Anthony of Dearborn, Henry of Lincoln Park, Louis of Caro, and George of Bitley; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Abbatoy of Bitely; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral mass was held Tuesday, Feb. 15 from Christ the King Church with Father Thomas Kelly, Celebrant. Interment followed in West Hesperia Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Raymond Funeral Home, Hesperia.

Herbert L. Ahearn
Herbert L. Ahearn, a lifelong resident of the Greater Lowell area, died yesterday. Born in Lowell, a son of Mrs. Rita (Boyle) Ahearn, he was educated in the New Hampshire school system and served with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam, where he was awarded two Purple Heart Medals. Mr. Ahearn was currently employed as a machine operator by the Jet Container company and resided on Mt. Vernon Street where he maintained his attendance in St. Mary's church in Chelmsford.

Besides his mother, he is survived by six brothers, Bernard Ahearn, associated with the Concord Auto Parts; Daniel Ahearn, with Tony O'Terry painting contractors; Timothy Ahearn, with the White & Stoddard Mason Contractors; Frederick Ahearn, Edward Ahearn, and James Ahearn, with Budweiser Brewing company, all of Lowell; eight sisters, Mrs. Peter (Rita) Devincitis, of Pepperell, Mrs. Brien (Marie) Lessard of Kingston, N. H.; Mrs. Randolph (Patricia) Riley of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. Lawrence (Gail) Bouls of Stewardville, Mo.; Mrs. Joan Junkins of Hampton, N. H.; Mrs. Hubert (Mary Lou) Prescott and Mrs. James (Barbara) Gagnon, both of Chelmsford; and Mrs. Regina Ferbert of Lowell.

NABNASSET—Mrs. Mary E. (Bertini) Ahern of 9 Lucille Ave., died yesterday at the Lowell General Hospital. She was born in Boston, June 10, 1939, the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Trembley) Bertini. She was the wife of Charles L. Ahern. Mrs. Ahern received her education in the Arlington school system and was graduated from the Solari School of Hair Design in Lowell. She held mebership at the Nabnasset Lake Country Club and the Ladies Golfers Association. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Ahern is survived by her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Bertini of Lexington; two daughters, Karen A., Class of 1980 Salem State College; Corine M., in the seventh grade at the Abbot Middle School in Westford; and a son, Charles L. Ahern, Jr. of the Class of 1977 Nashoba Technical High School; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Tosti of Nabnasset; Mrs. Judity [sic] Sweeney of Woburn; Mrs. Lillian Crawford of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. William (Nancy) Lavachio of Woburn; and two brothers, Robert J. Funeral for M.Sgt. (Ret.) Richard C. Ahern, 61, of 1803 N. 32nd., who died Monday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel, Denison, Tex. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Denison. Sgt. Ahern was born Sept. 10, 1915 in Denver, Colo. He was married to Alma Geisenhoner Aug. 14, 1948 in Dallas. Sgt. Ahern retired from the air force in 1959 after 22 years of service. He moved to Lawton three years ago. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo, Tex., and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5263 of Lawton. Survivors include his wife of the home; three brothers: William F. and George I., both of Denver, Colo., and John B., Albuquerque, N.M.; and one sister, Mrs. Mary G. Hickey.

Robert M. Ahern
Robert M. Ahern, 86, of 64 Edgmoor Road, longtime Belmont resident, died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. He was a retired wool merchant, having been associated with several prominent Boston firms. Mr. Ahern graduated in 1909 from the Boston Latin School and in 1913 from Harvard. He was a resident of Belmont for 50 years. He was employed for many years as a wool merchant by the Draper and Co. and the National Wool Marketing Corporation. He contributed articles to the National Woolgrowers Assn. Trade Journal. Husband of the late Gertrude (O'Callaghan), he leaves two daughters, Miriam Mullin of Durham, N. C. and Elizabeth Lane of Bedford; a son, Robert M. Ahern Jr. of Belmont, and six grandchildren. Daniel J. Ahern, Jr.
Daniel J. Ahern, Jr., of Newton, executive director of the Back Bay Assn. and urban affairs columnist for The Boston Herald American, was pronounced dead on arrival yesterday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was 51. A Boston native, Mr. Ahern graduated from Boston Latin School and later from Boston College in 1950. In between he served in combat with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II. As a city planner, Mr. Ahern was instrumental in the development of the "New Boston" committee that led to the establishment of the Prudential Center. As executive director of the Back Bay Assn., he was involved in changes in the Copley Square area. Mr. Ahern leaves his wife Shirley (Borden), a son Daniel, three daughters, Kathy, Elizabeth, and Susan, a brother Robert of Hyde Park, and two sisters, Florence, of Marshfield and Dorothy, of New Orleans. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Daniel J. Ahern, city planner and Herald columnist, at 51
Daniel J. Ahern Jr., 51, of Newton, executive director of the Back Bay Ass'n and urban affairs columnist for The Boston Herald American, died yesterday while vacationing on Cape Cod. He was dead on arrival at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. Born in Boston, Mr. Ahern was graduated from Boston Latin School and served in Iwo Jima and elsewhere in combat in the Pacific during World War II with the 4th Marine Division for which he was decorated. After the war, he attended Boston College, graduating in 1950. Mr. Ahern became active as a city planner and was instrumental in the development of the "New Boston" committee during the administration of Boston Mayor John B. Hynes that led to the establishment of the Prudential Center. He was associated with the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce for many years and spearheaded the chamber's waterfront development management plans.

Mr. Ahern was also involved in the establishment of the Boston Arts Festival and, more recently, helped with the planning of the Scituate Arts Festival. During the Bicentennial he was involved in the "Where's Boston?" exhibit at the Prudential Center. Mr. Ahern was a frequent guest on television and radio interview programs, answering questions about development projects planned for Boston and the suburbs. As executive director of the Back Bay Ass'n, he was involved in changes to the Copley Square area. Over the years he had been involved in many other city government projects as a planner.

He leaves his wife, Shirley (Borden); a son, Daniel, a 1977 Massachusetts Maritime Academy graduate; three daughters, Kathy, Elizabeth and Susan; a brother, Robert of Hyde Park, and two sisters, Florence of Marshfield and Dorothy of New Orleans. Funeral services are being planned.

Mrs. Elsbeth Ahern of 710 Camino Amigo, Danville, Calif., died Saturday in the Walnut Creek Hospital after a long illness. Born April 12, 1903 in Scio, she was the daughter of Mrs. Charles N. Cornelius Michael Ahearn
Cornelius Michael Ahearn, who retired in 1976 as a professor of accountancy at Bernard M. Baruch College, died yesterday in New Rochelle (N.Y.) Hospital. He was 66 years old and lived at 25 Gramercy Place, New Rochelle. Professor Ahearn, who had held the post for five years, had previously been business manager for eight years at City College of New York. He had also taught accountancy at Columbia, Fordham and New York Universities, and was a former controller of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company of Denver. He had won his A.B. degree at Fordham in 1938 and his M.A. at Columbia in 1940. He was a certified public accountant. Professor Ahearn is survived by his wife, the former Helene M. Mrs. Catherine (Kane) Ahern of Arlington, formerly of Cambridge, died June 18 in Otis General Hospital. She had resided here all her life until moving to Arlington and was widow of Joseph. She leaves two daughters, Doris Caroselli of Arlington and Rita Young of Quincy; a son, Albert of Quincy; two sisters Martha Cabral and Theresa Mangano, both of Cambridge; a brother, Charles Kane of Arlington; seven grandchildren and eight great-granchildren. The funeral was Wednesday from the John C. Burns and Sons Funeral Home with Mass in St. James Church, Arlington. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Mary Frances Ahern
Lifelong Arlington resident Frances M. Ahern, 91, of 21 Webster st. died June 24th at home after a long illness. Miss Ahern was born in Arlington and was a retired supervisor of the Mass. Division of Employment Security. She was a charter member and Past Grand Regent of Court St. Agnes 141, Arlington Emblem Club 46, Mass. Order of Foresters and Arlington Catholic Women's Club. She was an active entertainer and singer in town for many years. She was the daughter of the late Dennis and Margaret (Lane), sister of the late Robert J. Ahern and Marguerite Russell, sister-in-law of M. Elizabeth (Betty) Ahern. A funeral mass was celebrated June 27 in St. Agnes' Church. Father O'Sullivan officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by the D. W. Grannan and Son Funeral Home.

William J. O'Hearn
William J. O'Hearn, 62, died September 20 in Cambridge Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Quinn) O'Hearn and father of Dorothy Sawyer of Medford and R. William Sheehan of Malden. He is survived by five grandchildren. Born in Somerville, he was a former wharehouseman for the First National Stores. A Mass in St. Catherine's Church followed the funeral from the Daniel F. O'Brien Funeral Home. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Winifred (Towhill) Ahearn
OSTERVILLE — A funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of the Assumption Church here for Winifred (Towhill) Ahearn, who died Wednesday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. She was 67. Mrs. Ahearn was born in Northampton and lived in Wakefield from 1948 to 1972 before moving to Cape Cod. She was a self-employed designer and maker of women's clothes until she retired in 1951. After that she took up oil painting, despite being handicapped by severe rheumatoid arthritis. Mrs. Ahearn was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She is survived by a sister, Alice J. Winship of Falmouth, three nephews and eight neices. Burial will be in Mosswood Cemetery in Catuit.

Catherine A. Ahern
Miss Catherine A. Ahern, 82, a retired Providence school teacher, died yesterday at Hallworth House, Providence, after two months' illness. She was a teacher at the George W. West School for 42 years, retiring in 1963. Miss Ahern was born in Providence Oct. 9, 1896, a daughter of the late Daniel and Mary A. (O'Rourke) Ahern. She had lived in North Providence for the past 10 years and previously lived in Providence. She was a member of the third order of St. Dominic, the Providence Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom live in Providence and Warwick. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8 a.m. from the Russell J. Boyle Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Lawrence Church, Woonasquatucket Avenue, Centredale. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Joseph E. O'Hern
Services have been held for Joseph E. O'Hern, 76, former owner of Engineware Distributing Co., Inc., automotive warehouse distributor, 17 E. 23rd St. Mr. O'Hern, of 1030 N. State St., died Monday in Mercy Hospital. He had founded Engineware in 1954 and had been active in the firm until selling it in 1977. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Joan Tamborski, and two grandchildren.

John M. Aherne, a Wall Street lawyer with the firm of Brigham, Engler, Jones & Houston, died Sunday in St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., after a long illness. He was 78 years old and had lived in St. Petersburg since he retired six years ago. Mr. Aherne had been associated with the New York concern for 45 years. A funeral Mass for Mrs. Patricia E. (Kelleher) Ahearn, 58, prominent in North Shore visiting nurse activities, will be said Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa's Church, North Reading. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Ahearn, who lived on Chestnut street, North Reading, died at home Sunday after a long illness. Born in Beverly, she attended schools there and graduated from the Danvers Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended Northeastern University. She was a Navy nurse during World War II and did volunteer work for many years at Danvers State Hospital and Chelsea Naval Hospital. She leaves her husband, Maurice F. Ahearn Jr.; a son, Maurice Ahearn III of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jeanne Perkins of Merrimack and Mrs. Elaine Foley of Beverly; and a brother, John C. Kelleher Jr., also of Beverly.
