| Edward J. Ahern Jr., 69, of 8101 Camino Real, formerly of Springfield, Mass. and Brimfield, Mass.,
died Friday in Baptist Hospital. He was a former 25-year schoolteacher at Tantasqua Regional High School
in Brimfield. He retired in 1980.
Born in Springfield, he graduated from Commerce High School in 1943. He attended the University of
Massachusetts Agricultural College in Amherst, Mass., and the former Westfield State Teachers College,
now Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass., and received a master's degree in education at the
University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. He lived in Brimfield for 25 years until 15 years ago, when he
moved here. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific Theater on the USS
WASP Aircraft Carrier. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Knights of
Columbus in Brimfield.
He leaves his mother, Anna O. (Schiehser) Ahern of Springfield;
four sons, Michael E. of East Windsor, N.J., Paul D. of Tustin,
Calif., Thomas F. of Ipswich, Mass., and Timothy J. of Springfield; a daughter, Karen A. Alostaz of Kuwait City,
Kuwait; a brother, George J. of Galt, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Another son,
Kevin J., died in 1995.
The funeral will be Wednesday morning at Kozikowski Funeral Home in Chicopee, Mass., and in St. Paul's
Church in Springfield, with burial in Brimfield Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday afternoon and evening.
