Previously John MOFFETT was thought to have come from Culpepper,VA., however, after reviewing various Federal Census records of the children, they all list John's origin was from KY. Based on the 1820 Federal Census for Shelby Co., KY. a Benjamin MOFFETT and a John MOFFETT were both listed. They each had male children under ten, which would be the approximate right age for marriage in 1840. Additionally, on the same census record page, a listing for Williamson BRISCOE (Mary's father) was recorded. This would mean they were probably neighbors. I believe that John's father is either Benjamin or John MOFFETT. Does anyone have information on the Benjamin or John MOFFETT from the 1820 Federal Census enumerated in Shelby Co., KY.? John	MOFFETT	Seeking information on John MOFFETT who helped Joseph NEVILLE survey property in Virginia/West Virginia. They were commissioned in 1761 by Lord Fairfax as he ordered them to lay off his Patterson Creek Manor into lots. Joseph NEVILLE and John MOFFETT completed the survey, subdividing the manor into thirty-one lots. The most desirable land bordering the Creek was found to be occupied, and to his notes for each of these lots Joseph NEVILLE added claimed by (or occupied by) Solomon HEDGES was still living at the place where he had provided Genn's surveyors with the crude hospitality of the frontier when they passed through in 1748. Later Hedges gave up his claim to Lot No. 3 and moved across the mountain to New Creek. A list of the lots in Patterson Creek Manor as surveyed and recorded by Joseph NEVILLE and John MOFFETT with their claimants and acreage. Much of this information can be found on the URL for the West Virginia Early History. The information is authored by Charles Morrison. For much of the survey work the teenage nephew of Lord Fairfax, Philip Martin accompanied the surveying team as well as a young teenage boy, know as George WASHINGTON. According to the census it says that Edward is from New Brunswick but there is a person on your site that is asking about a Clara A. b in 1862 or 1864 and that it has something to do with St. Andrews N.W. I emailed but there has been no reply. William Frank MOFFITT/MOFFAT immigrated to Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia in 1896 and was living in a house during the 1901 census. We have lost track of him because Pearl was killed in the 1917 Halifax explosion and we do not know if he was with her or not. We have not been able to trace anything of him or his family .
