Bette Mae was born at home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Bette was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church. She worked for Kresge where she met her husband, Fort Smith Freight Bureau, and Van Buren Employment Security Division 1971 - 1991. Bette broke her hip in April 1993. She moved to Conway, Arkansas June 1994. She was living with her son Bill in Hot Springs, Arkansas when she died.

Her name is pronounced Betty, and hence was often misspelled. Bette's son, William (Bill), was 2 years old when this photo was taken.

"She is survived by two sons, Bill E. Provin II of Hot Springs, and Dallas and wife, Pat Provin of Conway; three great-grandchildren, Michelle and husband Tommy Crumpton of Little Rock, and Greg Provin of Plano, Texas, and Melissa and husband, Jeff West of Conway; two twin great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tanner Crumpton who were the special love of her life. At age 79, she suffered blackouts only to discover she had partially blocked arteries. The doctor told her she might have to have surgery but she told them she did not want anything to endanger her life since she was expecting twin great-grandsons. They gave her baby aspirin, which cured the problem. The boys were born on Jan. 15,1997. She bragged to everyone about those great-grandsons and they were the highlight of her last years. Bette loved cooking and good tasting food and would always describe any favorite item by saying, "that's the best I ever had". She lived her life for her family and was always there in time of need. She will be missed by her family and close companion and protector, Lizzy."

"I wanted to help you update your website. I was married to Greg Provin, Bette's grandson. Greg and I divorced a few days before Bette passed away. Also, Michelle Provin is no longer married to Tommy Crumpton.

I'm quite confident that Greg no longer lives in Plano. He sold the house we shared, this past June. If I had to guess, he probably moved back to Arkansas to be closer to his family.

Melissa & Jeff West also had a child in 2001, but due to my separation from the family, I never found out if it was a boy or girl or the name. I'm sure they have had others since then.

I miss them all greatly, but due to Greg and I not having any children, there was nothing to keep the lines of communication open to the rest of the family. I hope this information helps keep your website current."
