TAYLOR--I am looking for information on William Russell THOMAS. He is found in the 1900 census for Alabama City (precinct 29), Etowah County, Alabama. It is in Vol. 22, Enumeration district 165, Sheet 21, Line 16. His birth date is given as Dec., 1864. He is listed as having 4 daughters, Margaret (16), Martha (13), Jennie (11), Lottie (9) and 1 son, Clyde O. (1). All 4 of his daughters have their occupation listed as spinner in Cotton Mill. His first wife was apparently already deceased. He is found in the 1910 census for Calhoun County, Alabama. His wife is listed as Sarah F. (28). His children include daughter Mattie (23), son John L. (9), daughter Abbie E. (7), and Oliver L. (2). The Mattie listed would seem to be the one listed as Martha in the 1900 census. His age is given as 50, but should have been 46. Abbie E. is probably the one called Edna by her younger sisters. A comparison of the two census records indicates: [1] Margaret, age 16 in 1900 would be 26 by 1910 and had apparently moved out, [2] Martha, age 13 in 1900 would be the same as the 23 year old Mattie in 1910, [3] Jennie, 11 years old in 1900 was no longer with the family in 1910, [4] Lottia (Lottie), 9 years old in 1900 was no longer with the family in 1910. [4] Clyde O., 1 year old in 1900 was no longer with the family in 1910. The names on the census records match the names relayed from my aunt. RWFields@aol.com

He left her and her children took her name of Tidwell. Sarah is in the 1830 GA Census in Hall Co., as head of household. She has 2 sons under 5 at that time, a 60-70 yr old white male a 50-60 yr old white female. This could possibly be Old John and Celia (no further information has been located on them). They are not in the 1840 Census. Sarah is listed in the 1850 Census as head of household with several more children. The two boys have reached maturity by this time. Marion (b) 1929 is one of her sons and he has left and married a Anna Margaret (?) they have a son John in 1848, family story is that John was born at Sand Mountain AL. Marion is buried in Cherokee County, AL. As you can see we are trying to get information on Marion and Anna Margaret their wedding date, her last name. TURNER--I am attempting to identify Pvt William M. TURNER who enlisted in CO C, 8th Miss. Cav. Reg't, at Concord, Calhoun Co., MS, on 17 Aug 1863. According to the Historic Roll for the 8th MS Cav. Reg't, William M. TURNER was born in Jefferson Co., AL. He was age 24 upon enlistment. I believe Wm. M. TURNER was related to my great-great grandfather Jesse TURNER who moved his family from Jefferson Co., AL to MS in 1837. Three of Jesse TURNER's sons (including my great grandfather, James Bradley TURNER who was born in Jefferson Co. in 1834), a son-in-law and a grandson also served in the 8th Miss. Cav. Reg't. Jesse TURNER was the son of William TURNER who died in Jefferson Co., AL, in Aug 1836. JArnoldret@aol.com

TYLER, if you are a descendant of the George Benjamin TYLER who lived in Birmingham, Alabama in the late 1890's, I have information for you about your PHIPPS ancestors. Your ancestor was most likely Josepha PHIPPS, the daughter of Paris Manuel and Nancy Miles PHIPPS. Paris was born in 1802 in Thompson, Connecticut, and died 1848 according to bible records. He moved to Oppenhiem, Fulton Co., New York with his parents in 1821 and was a head of household there on the 1830 census before he disappeared. It is possible he lived in Penn Yann, Yates Co., New York before his death. George Benjamin TYLER's name and place of residence appears in the probate records of Paris' brother David in the late 1890's. I have been trying to find information about this family. I have alot of information on the PHIPPS ancestors of New England and New York I can share. Greg Walker <walkers@rica.net>
