SOWELL---My great great grandfather, Bradford James Sowell was killed in Bessemer, Jefferson Cty,Alabama. The family account is that he was trying to break up a fight between some young kids and another man stepped in and asked if he was an officer. He told him no, he was just trying to break up the fight. The man hit him and Bradford tried to ward off the blow and the man stabbed him with a knife. Elbert was born around 1790 (unknown place) and died in Sumter County around 1843.
