Davis---Need help with Willis/Willie D. Davis family of Pickens County, Alabama. Listed as Willis D. Davis in 1850 Pickens County Census; listed as Willis Davis in 1860 Pickens County Census; listed as Willie D. Davis in 1870 Pickens County Census. Willis/Willie D. Davis was born about 1818 in North Carolina. He married Mary (surname not known at this time about 1843 -- they probably met and got married in Alabama. Mary was born about 1816 in South Carolina. In 1870 Census for Pickens County, this Davis family is HN# 164 and FN# 164 and is living next to Alex Moorhead family HN# 163 and FN# 163 -- Alex is 70 years old in 1870 Census. Puzzling to us is the fact that listed in the 1870 Census as living in the Willie D. Davis home is Alex Moorhead (age 26) and his wife, Jennie (age 24). This Jennie is not a Davis and so we wonder why they are living with the Davises -- unless Willie's wife, Mary, was a Moorhead??? When/where was Willis/Willie D. Davis born in NC? Who were his parents? When/where was Mary, his wife, born? Who were her parents? Contact: Thomas R. Davis Email: [email protected] Address: 102 Crazy Cross Road; Wimberley, TX 78676.

roberson (robertson, robeson or other misp)--- I am trying to locate information on my ancestors from the early 1800s, in the early days of Pickens County. Could you please help me learn what records are available from those days and where I can find them? My great-great grandfather was Lodwick Roberson, born in 1819 in Pickens County (then still Tuscaloosa County). I believe that he lived there with family for 12-15 years. After moving to Mississippi in the 1830s, he returned in the 1840s to Pickens County with his brother and they married sisters Mary Eleanor Ball and Jemima Elizabeth Ball, daughters of George and Martha Ball. Other Roberson relatives may have remained in Pickens County this entire time. My main goal is to find the name of Lodwick's parents and any information about them as possible. Would there be any birth records existing from 1819 in either Pickens or Tuscaloosa County? Two references in The History of Pickens County Alabama 1540-1920 by J.F. Clanahan suggest that Lodwick's father's name may also have been Lodwick: 1) On the Commissioner's Court of 1824 is listed a "Loderwick Robertson." (page 10) 2) A land purchase in the Union Chapel Community on April 8, 1822 was made by "Sodowick Robertson." (page 29) A cursive "S" and a cursive "L" from those days are very similar, so I think the transcription of the land purchase was a mis-read, and should have been "Lodowick," and that these two people are one and the same. But at this point that is all I have to go on. What land purchase records are available in your area from 1815-1830, and where can I find them? And what census records are available from 1820- 30, and where can I find them? Finally, what marriage records exist from the 1840s, that I may research the Roberson-Ball weddings? A Ball family bible indicates the wedding of Lodwick Roberson and Mary Eleanor Ball as Dec. 20, 1843; and the A.J. Roberson wedding with Jemima Elizabeth Ball as Feb. 26, 1846. Thanks very much for any and all help you may provide.
