WILLIAM ELMER, 79, DIES IN PORTLAND

 

            William A. Elmer Sr., 79, of Troutdale, died in a Portland hospital May 30.  Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bateman Funeral Chapel with burial in Rose City Cemetery. 

            He was born in Wisconsin and moved to the Portland area in the early 1920’s.  In 1941 he moved to Troutdale and has lived there since. 

            He operated the Roseway Dairy in the old Grand Central Market Bldg. from 1935 to 1953 and the Roseway Poultry Farm in Troutdale until his death. 

            He was a member and past president of the Gresham Farm Bureau and a member and past president of the Troutdale Lions Club.  He was also a member of the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church and the Gresham Elks. 

            In 1961, Elmer received the Golden Gavel Award as the top Farm Bureau president in the state.  In 1962, while Elmer was president of the Multomah County Farm Bureau, it was recognized as the best county bureau in the state. That same year, the bureau took top year book honors.

            Elmer served as president of the Farm Bureau from 1960-1962 and again in 1975-76.        He also was a member of the old Troutdale School Board. 

            Survivors include his wife, Rosalie, whom he married in 1924, sons of William A. Jr., of California, Jacob of Portland, brothers, Walter of Portland and Richard of Sherwood; sisters Rose Wilson of Wisconsin and Hulda Borigo and Leona Nelson of California.       

            Four grandchildren also survive.

FORMER FARM LEADER DIES

 

            Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bateman Funeral Chapel for William A. Elmer, 78, Troutdale, former president of the Gresham Farm Bureau. He died Monday in a Portland hospital.

            Mr. Elmer owned the Roseway Poultry Farm. He was a former president of the Gresham Farm Bureau and was a member of the Troutdale Lions Club. He was born in Wisconsin.

            Survivors are his wife, Rosalie; two sons, William A. Elmer Jr., Alhambra, Calif., and Jacob (Jack) Elmer, Portland; two brothers, Walter Elmer, Portland, and Richard Elmer, Sherwood; three sisters, Rose Wilson, White Salmon, Wash.; Hulda Borigo, Los Altos, Calif., and Leona Nelson, San Bernadino, Calif., and four grandchildren.

WILLIAM ELMER

 

            Services for William A. Elmer Sr., Troutdale, will be 11 a.m. Friday in Bateman Funeral Chapel in Gresham. Vault entombment will be in Rose City Cemetery.  He died Monday in a Portland hospital at  age 78.     

            Mr. Elmer was born in Wisconsin and had lived in Troutdale since 1941. He owned the Roseway Poultry Farm and operated the Roseway Dairy in the Old Grand Central Market in Portland from 1935 to 1953.

            He was a member of the Gresham Farm Bureau, the Troutdale Lions Club and the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. 

            Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; sons, William Jr., of LaHabra, Calif., and Jacob (Jack) of Portland; brothers, Walter of Portland and Richard of Sherwood, and sisters, Rose Wilson of White Salmon, Wash., Hulda Borigo of Los Altos, Calif., and Leona Nelson of San Bernadino, California.        

            The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
