RALPH STEWART DIES AT 73

            Ralph W. Stewart of Cook, retired lumber worker and member of the Skamania County Sheriff's Reserve, died in a hospital at The Dalles, Oregon Tuesday, August 26, at the age of 73.
            Funeral services will be held today, Friday, August 29 at 1 p.m. at Gardner's Funeral Chapel in Stevenson. Interment will follow at the Appleton, Washington cemetery.

RITES ARE READ FOR RALPH STEWART, MILL A RESIDENT

            Funeral services were held Friday for Ralph W. Stewart, resident of Mill A, who died in a hospital at The Dalles Tuesday, August 26, at the age of 73.
            Mr. Stewart had been in ill health for several months and had entered the hospital August 18.
            He was a member of the Skamania County Sheriff's Reserve and Evergreen Grange 1076 and was on the board of directors of Senior Services of Skamania County, Inc. He was also a member of Union Local 2805, Lumber and Sawmill Workers.
            Mr. Stewart was born August 31, 1906, at the family farm home near Vancouver, the son of James W. and Louise Stewart. He grew up in the area and attended school there.
            Ralph Stewart and Mildred McMahon were married in Multnomah, near Portland, Oregon, September 27, 1927. They would have observed their 53rd anniversary this month.
            The Stewarts made their first home in Multnomah and their children were born there. In 1936 they moved to the Yakima area where they operated a dairy farm until World War II when Mr. Stewart went to work in the Vancouver shipyards. Following the war they moved to Klickitat where he was employed for a number of years at the sawmill. For a time they operated a ranch at Trout Lake and moved to Mill A in 1968 after Mr. Stewart suffered a heart attack and had to limit his working hours. He was one of the original members of the Skamania County Sheriff's Reserve when it was organized by Sheriff William Closner, and was also active in the Grange and in senior services. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Mildred, at home; a son, Ralph Stewart Jr., of Seattle; a daughter, Patricia (Mrs. Robert) Landanger of The Dalles; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
            Funeral services were held at Gardner's Chapel in Stevenson, Friday, August 29, with the Rev. Edgar Haworth officiating. Interment followed at the Appleton Cemetery.
            Casket bearers were Melvin Wyatt, Verlon Dutson, Rick Evans, Victor Boucher, James Youtsey and Ralph Stewart III. Honorary bearers were Chester Latimer, Troy Mansfield, Lyle Trent, Lester Knowlton, Ernest Skala and Lester Miller.
            Gardner's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
