ROSLIE ELMER

Funeral for long-time Troutdale resident Roslie Luscher Elmer

will begin at noon November 14 at Caldwell Colonial Funeral Home, Northeast 14th Ave. and Sandy Boulevard in Portland.

Mrs. Elmer died November 11 at Portland Adventist Medical Center, at the age of 90.

She was born to Jacob and Lizzie Luscher on June 27, 1896 in Portland.

She was one of 5 children.

Her father and mother owned and operated the Fairview Holstein Farm, where she grew up with her brothers. She married William E. Elmer in Portland about 1924.

The Elmers took the Roseway name with them to a farm they purchased in 1941 in Troutdale, calling it the Roseway Poultry Farms. William Elmer died in 1977. The farm sold in 1980 to Faith United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Elmer was a member of the Multnomah Co. Farm Bureau, of Eastern Star and of Soroptimist. She was active in the 4-H club, and was an early organizer and chaperon of the Junior Rose Festival Court. She was also a member of the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church in Portland.

Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed cooking and was a fine Swiss cook. Her son, Jacob "Jack" Elmer, said her involvement in 4-H, and her cooking, inspired him to become a pastry chef. Jack Elmer is the former owner of the bakeries at Heidi's Restaurants in Boring and Gresham. He recently moved his business to Portland.

She is survived by her sons, Jacob Elmer of Portland, and William Elmer Jr. of La Habre, Calif.; her brother Rudolph Luscher of West Linn; nine grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Contributions may be made in her name to Chef de Cuisine Apprenticeship Program, 1210 SE 57th Ave, Portland, OR. 97215
