RICHARD JENSEN KILLED ON BATTLE FIELD IN KOREA
The Korean war has taken another Klickitat County youth's
life -- Richard Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Jensen of Bickleton. The
War Department notified Mr. and Mrs. Jensen that Richard was killed while
in the line of duty in Korea on Sept. 3, 1950.
Richard was born April 4, 1932 and raised on his parents
farm in Bickleton. He attended school in Bickleton until his senior year,
when he moved with his parents and twin brother, Ronald to
Grandview.
He started to school in Grandview in the fall of 1949,
but made up his mind he wanted to join the armed forces and enlisted in September
and was sent to Fort Ord, California, for his initial training. He was later
transferred to Camp Stoneman, and assigned to the Transportation Corp. In
July he "shipped out" for Japan and was among the first troop to go into
battle in Korea.
He leaves his parents, twin brother Ronald of Grandview,
a brother Sherman of Bickleton and one sister Mrs. Marian Hiltellis of Palo
Alto, Calif.
