BLAIR SHIPPEY
Blair Shippey of Lyle died last Monday in The Dalles. He was 87. Mr.
Shippey was born Nov. 4, 1905 in Portland to Etta Mae (Reed) and Orie Ernest
Shippey. He grew up in Lyle and started his own ranch at the age of 14.
He was known as a perfectionist, who loved his land and animals. He
married Dorothy Hallenbeck in 1937 and they worked the ranch together.
Mr. Shippey was a member of the Washington Cattlemen's Association,
awarded Cattleman of the Year in 1973. He was also a member of Rhineland
Quadrilles. When he wasn't ranching, he was dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Lyle; daughters, Arlene
Bennett of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Gardner Funeral home in White
Salmon, followed by burial in Appleton Cemetery.
