OBITUARY

Kathleen May Ward, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Ward, passed away last Wednesday, the 14th, after an illness of less than a month.  This came as a surprise to a large circle of friends.
Kathleen was born in Goldendale, and at the time of her death, was in her 14th year.  With the exception of a period of a little over two years, she lived in Goldendale all her life.  She was a girl of unusual promise, having stood high in her studies, and was so expectant of entering high school the coming term.
From the first symptoms of her illness she was given medical attention and later had special treatment.  All that loving care and skillful nursing could do was done, but without avail.  Her sufferings were intense, yet in her rational moments she tried to suppress signs of pain so as to lessen the worry of her family.
Funeral services were held in the Chapman parlors Thursday afternoon in the presence of a large gathering of friends.  Her class and teachers were present in a body.  The singing was most appropriate.
The service was conducted by Mr. Barnum and Dr. Sanders.  The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.  The internment took place Friday in the Appleton cemetery.  Many friends all over the county sympathized with the bereaved parents.
