MAN COMMITS SUICIDE AT LYLE MONDAY

Jimmie Houston, Lyle, Washington garage man committed suicide early Monday morning around 8:30 a.m. by shutting himself in his car and using a garden hose to run carbon monoxide fumes into the car through a window.
Jimmie Houston, about 31 years of age left a wife and four children, the youngest 7 months old. He had been operating the One Stop Service station and garage at the Appleton Junction and Highway 8.
Mrs. Houston found the body about 10:30 when she arrived at the garage.
Members of the White Salmon Volunteer Fire Department rushed to the site near the Fay McNabb home near Lyle Monday morning, and worked on the body with their resuscitator for 30 minutes.
It was learned that a garden hose had been inserted in the exhaust pipe of the car, with rags stuffed around the hose so that it would remain in the pipe, then run into the car window where more rags were used to stuff around the window opening to keen the fumes from escaping.
The wife of the deceased man stated that he had left for work about 8:00 a. m. and she herself had started for work about 10 a. m. when she found the body in the car. The White Salmon department received the call around 10:30 and was at the scene at 10:58.
The tragedy of Monday is just another strong link in the evidence of the greater need for a Disaster Car for the area.
