ELDERLY LYLE MAN KILLED BY SADDLE HORSE
The mangled body of Albert P. Dickerson, 69-year-old
the High Prairie resident, was found near his home at Scotland Acres last
Sunday morning. Dickerson, who had been dead less than an hour when found,
had apparently been thrown from a horse and stomped to death. C.R. House,
Klickitat county sheriff, who investigated the accident said.
Dickerson's horse, bridled and saddled, was grazing in
the field nearby. Dickerson's body was discovered by Manuel Leonardo, of
Dallesport. Leonardo immediately notified authorities.
According to Leo F. Brune, Dallesport sheepman who had
employed Dickerson for many years, the horse had been broken to ride less
than a year ago. The animal had not been ridden for nearly four months prior
to the time of the accident, Brune said.
Dickerson came to Klickitat county in 1895 and had resided
in the High Prairie section most of the time since. He was born in Virginia.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Etta Welch of Portland, a daughter in
LaGrande, Oregon; and grandchildren in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Funeral services were held from the Chapman chapel Wednesday
afternoon with burial following at the Hartland cemetery. Rev. C.E. Hanes
conducted the services.
