ALBERT ELMER
Albert Elmer was born in Elm, Canton Glarna, Switzerland,
February 21, 1863. He migrated to America in the winter of 1880, on New Years
day he arrived in New York, all alone, and having not reached his 17th birthday.
His destination was Monroe, Wisconsin, where his brother
lived. There he found work on a farm and rapidly became a citizen of this
country.
On February 23rd, 1889, at New Glarus, Wisconsin, he
was united in marriage to Regina Schmid, who also had crossed the Atlantic
in the spring in 1886.
They raised a family of ten children, five boys and five
girls, eight of whom are still living, also 26 grandchildren, and eleven
great grandchildren; one sister and one brother in Arpin, Wisconsin, and
many nieces and nephews.
They came to Trout Lake Valley in 1891 to make their
home.
He became a member of the Trout Lake Grange in May 1913.
He became a member of the Lutheran church at Arpin, Wisconsin, 1898, where
they both still have their membership.
On the morning of March 24th after he had started the
morning fire, he quickly and quietly took his leave from this earth.
He leaves his wife, four sons and four daughters, 26
grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and a host of friends, because
he had not enemies.
