CHURCH MERGER PROPOSED
Hood Congregations Plan To Combine Activities
Single Protestant Organization May Replace Eight Churches - Financial
Conservation Seen.
HOOD RIVER, Or. Dec. 7 - (Special) - If suggestions of
some of the prominent church people of this city are realized, Hood River
next year may have a single community Protestant church, attended by members
of all denominations. The movement is meeting with much favor and organization
plans are already under way. A meeting was held recently to provide for future
conferences of committees from all Protestant denominations of the city.
Hood River has eight charges owning buildings. They include
the Baptist, Christian, United Brethren, Unitarian, Episcopalian, Congregational,
Methodist and Christian and Missionary Alliance.
Rev. W.H. Boddy, formerly connected with Reed College
in Portland, who has been successful in conducting a union church in the
Upper Valley, has promised his aid in effecting a community church. One of
the arguments advanced is that the proposed merger of church activities will
result in great economy and will increase interest in church affairs.
