Funeral services for Gwen Leon Keever were held Oct. 18 at the
Veteran®s Memorial Auditorium in Colome.. Burial was in the Colome
Cemetery®with Rev. Don Leteffier of Calvary Chapel officiating.
Pallbearers were Harold Brabanek, Clayton Jerred, Stanley Keever,
Dennis Jerred, Ronald Jerred and Robert Collier.
Mr.and Mrs. Keever were killed in a car accident near Avon, Oct. 14.
Mrs. Keever was born Jan. 7, 1906, in Sioux Falls, to Leon and Emily
Loveless She lived near Canton until the age of eight and then the
family moved to Sault Sainte Marie, Mich. She returned to South Dakota
and lived with her grandparents while attending Augustana Academy.
She taught school near Norris, and married Earl Keever at Kadoka
on.Nov. 30, 1928. They lived near Norris for nine years before coming
to Colome in 1938.
During World War II they lived in Sault Sainte Marie, and Pasco Wash.,
returning to Colome in 1945 where she taught at schools near Colome
and Norris.
Mrs. Keever was a member of Calvary Chapel Church, Colome Garden Club,
American Legion Auxiliary, National Retired Teachers Association,
Dallas Senior Citizens Center, Tripp County Historical Society, and
Rebekah Lodge in which she was a past noble grand.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. Donald (JoAnn) Davis, Mitchell;
Joseph Keever, Casper, Wyo.; Mrs. Chris (Helva) Anderson, Vermilion,
and eight grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters. Mrs. Margaret Parker, Pontiac,
Mich.; Mrs. Russell (Nyda) Caldwell, Fibre, Mich., and two brothers,
Arthur Loveless, Pontiac, and Clayton Loveless; Fibre.
She was preceded In death by her parents, two brothers, and two
sisters.

His childhood was complicated by the struggle between his mother
Urraca and her second husband, Alfonso I of Aragon, for control of
Castile and Leon. Only on Urraca's death (1126) did his stepfather
finally relinquish his claims. Alfonso was then formally accepted as
emperor by the kings of Aragon and Pamplona (Navarre), by the count of
Barcelona, and by various Hispano-Moorish rulers. His capture of
Almería (1147) from the Moors won him renown, as did other victories,
but in the end these led to little expansion of territory. Almería was
lost again in 1157 and Córdoba remained in his hands for only three
years. In 1146 a new invasion of North African fanatics, the Almohads,
began. Alfonso now allied himself with the Almoravids and devoted the
rest of his life to a series of campaigns to check Almohad expansion
in southern Spain.
Despite the importance of the imperial idea at this time, peninsular
fractionalist tendencies were by no means dormant. Alfonso was unable
to prevent the establishment of Portugal as an independent kingdom
(1140) and, in his will, he himself divided his realm, as was the
Spanish custom, between his two sons, Sancho III of Castile and
Ferdinand II of Leon. This act finally destroyed the concept of empire
in medieval Spain.
