foundation of a new Westminster Abbey (consecrated in 1065). He lived
in Normandy (1016-41) and his early reign was dominated by rivalry
between his Norman favourites and his father-in-Law. After 1053 the
Goodwins were in the ascendant. Edward's childlessness led ultimately
to the Norman conquest. He was canonized in 1161. His feast day is
13th October.

Raymond Frederick Kreiner, age 89, of Raleigh. North Carolina, died
Wednesday morning, March 10, 1999. He was born in Wapello, Iowa,
graduated from Cornell College and received graduate degrees from
American University in Chicago, Illinois. He was professor of music at
Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, Sullins College and Virginia
High School, Bristol, Virginia, and at Peace College in Raleigh. He
was Minister of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh for
twenty-five years and directed music for Ernest Myatt Presbyterian
Church and Rex Hospital School of Nursing.
He was a 50-year member of the Raleigh Kiwanis Club and a former
President and member of the Raleigh Music Club.
He was preceded in death by wives, Esther Fisher of Lena, Illinois,
Torn Ladu of Raleigh. and is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kreiner,
three sons, Karl Kreiner of Glendale. California, John Kreiner and
Raymond Kreiner, both of Atlanta, Georgia; a step-daughter, Rebecca
Chadwick of Costa Mesa, California; eleven grandchildren; and nine
great- grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mr. Kreiner was held at 11:30a.m. Saturday,
March 13, 1999, at the First Presbyterian Church at Raleigh.
Following transportation to Iowa, a funeral service was held at 10
a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at
Wapello, with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Music was
provided by Geneva Samuels, organist and Alana Poage and Wayne
Gieselman, vocalists. The casket bearers included Harlan Schafer,
Robert Middaugh, Doug Brown, John Kreiner, Barrett Kreiner. and Daryl
Schneider.
Burial followed at Harrison Cemetery.
The family gathered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to visit
with friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Raymond and Esther Kreiner
Music Scholarship Fund at First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh.
