The will of Thomas Vose of Garston
In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Vose of Garston in the countie of
Lancaster yeoman doe make this my last will and testaint the xx 111~tt
day of februarie Anno d~1640 in maner and forme followinge First and
principally I comitt my soule into the hands of Almightie God who gave
me life and beinge hopinge and assuredly beelevinge through the death
and merite of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer to have my
sins pardoned and my soule eternally saved And my bodie to be buried
at the pishe church of Childwall. And as for my temporall goods it
hath pleased god to blesse me with all I doe give dispose and bequeath
as
followeth First my will and mind is that all my debts funerall
expences and all other costs and charges concerninge my buriall be
taken out of the whole and for the rest residue and remainder of all
my sayd goods I doe hereby dispose and bequeath by this my last will
and testmt tobe equally devided in two pts The one halfe pte I doe
reserve unto myselfe and the other halfe pt I doe give unto my sones
John Vose and Robert Vose saveinge that forth of Robert pte there is
to be abated and allowed the soffle of twentie pounds wok he the sayd
Robert Vose hath formerly rec& from me. Item I doe give and bequeath
unto the Chappell of
Farnworth for and towards the mentaininge of a preachinge minister
there the some of tenn pounds to be payd for the mentaininge of a
preachinge minister as afforsayd at the discretion of Robert Vose my
sonne. Mlso I doe give unto the Chappell of BlacIrrud (Blackrod) for
the maintininge of a preachinge minister there the some of five pounds
to be payd unto the sayd preachinge minister att the discretion of
Rafe Vose my sonne in law And I doe allso give and bequeath unto the
chappel of Hale for and towards the mentaininge of a preachinge
minister there the some of five pounds the sayd some to be disposed of
and payd unto the sayd preachinge mininster att the discretion of John
Vose my sonne. And I do hereby freely give and bequeath unto Anne Vose
my now wife the whole and just some of thirtie pounds of good and
lawfull English money to be payd unto the sayd Anne yf she survive and
ovlive me in manner and forme followinge viz tenn pounds at the end of
the next halfe yere after my dicease and the some of twentie pounds at
the end of one whole yere next after my dicease the sayd some to be
payd as afforseyd by and from the hands of my executors Ailso I doe
give unto Robert Pendleton of Garston the some of fortie shillings.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Clemence Vose of Whiston w05 I am
unkle unto the some of fortie shillings Aliso I doe give unto John
Carie of Widnes wok I am unkle unto the like some of fortie shillings
Aliso I doe give unto the free scole of Much Woolton the some of
fortie shillings And as for all the rest residue and remainder of my
half pte ov' and besydes the discharginge of all my debts legaces and
funerall expences I doe hereby freely give and bequeath unto the
children of John Vose vidz Ellin Grace and Ellinor daughters of my
sayd sone John And to the children of Robert Vose that is to say Wilim
Edward Elizabeth and Thomas sonns and daughter unto my sayd sonne
Robert Vose And unto the children of Rafe Vose my sonne in
law vidz Margerie Marie and Edward all that remainder of my halfe
parte as afforesayd to be devided equally amongst them And I doe
hereby constytute ordaine and appoint my well beloved sonnes John Vose
and Robert Vose my executors to this my last will and testaint hopinge
they will see this my last will and testamt trulie performed in ev'
pticuler.
