: Let me add a few comments on the information from Mr. Wayland. The first John Swetnam mentioned was Judge John Swetnam (1798-1864) who, with his wife Sarah, came from Kentucky to Missouri in 1829 and settled about four miles southeast of the site of today's Armstrong. Sarah, a daughter of Thomas Jonas Goff of "Kinlock," Clark County, Kentucky, died in 1835. John Swetnam then married Mary Ann(e) Belmear (1820-1881). One of the nine or ten children of John Swetnam's first marriage was Strauder Bartee Swetnam (1830-1890), named for a maternal ancestor and Reverend Asa J. Bartee, a neighbor and friend of the Swetnams. Bartee Swetnam (as he was known) and Mary Katherine Walkup (1836-1890) were
parents of 11 children, among them John Harvey Swetnam (1860-1939), who married Myrtle L. Fray (1879-1979). Another was Nannie Seaman Swetnam (1874-1930), my maternal grandmother. The John Swetnam whose death was noted in the Randolph Recorder, October 18, 1860, was a son of Jonas Goff Swetnam (1820-1890), the eldest brother of Strauder Bartee Swetnam.
I would be glad to exchange information on the Howard County families named: Swetnam, Snell, Walkup, Simmons, Goff, Marksbury (Maxberry), Franklin, and Baskett.

John, George & Sidney seem to be the only sons who located in the Howard-Randolph Co MO area. I collected information on George & Sidney's families, as well as John's second family, so I wouldn't confuse them with John's first family (my primary interest).
