John Baldwin and Delilia Wayland were my ggrandparents. I don't know if I have corresponded previously with you or not. If I've asked you this question before, please excuse the repeat.

The story in my family all of my life has been that Delilia Wayland was almost, if not totally, full blooded Cherokee Indian. My family's physical features certainly support this claim. The data I have traces the family roots back to Georgia and the Carolinas which was Cherokee
country, at least certain parts.

Can you shed any light on this subject for me?

The mother of Loretta (as she was known) died when she was four years old and her grandmother Amarena Wayland reared her. Her husband died when their youngest child was four years old and Loretta reared them. When they were old enough to go to college, she moved to Waco and sent them to Baylor University.

There was only one child of this marriage: Amarena Rogers, b. 29 Nov 1883 and died 7 Nov 1884. Her mother died when the infant was 3 weeks old and then the infant died about a year later and was buried beside her mother.
