Other marriages:
PATTON, Martha "Mary"

Revolutionary War veteran. Served from 1776 to 1781, was in Battles of Cane Creek and Kings Mountain. Applied for a pension 2 Aug 1832. Had children: James, Martha, Robert, William, Frances, Andrew, Rachel, Margaret, Patten, Anne by first wife and then by second wife: Davis, John, Jane, Arsenath, Mary. John moved about 85 miles west of Charlotte, NC in 1770. He moved to Fayette Co., KY prior to 1800, and moved to Maurey Co., TN prior to 1832, where he died.

Martha WOODS was born about 1765. She married John DYSART in 1801.

James DYSART was born in 1727 in , , , Ireland. He died on 1 Feb 1781. James married Margaret Young STEWART.

Fought in the Rev. War. He came to Penn from Ireland before 1734. The Dysart name was formed between the 11th and 13th Centuries in Scotland, so ancestry was "Scotch-Irish." James migrated to Chester Co., PA and purchased nearly 1,000 acres of land; then he went to NC in 1765. His home was near Charlotte. He and his son, William, were killed in 1781 in a battle with British troops at Cowan's Fort on the Catawba River, 18 miles nortwest of Charlotte.

Margaret Young STEWART was born about 1730. She married James DYSART.

  M i John DYSART

John FRAY [scrapbook] was born about 1720 in , , Germany. He died in 1791 in , , Virginia. John married Rebecca YOWELL.

See Dove book, p. 136. There is a picture of the original log cabin that John and Rebecca purchased in 1782 and lived until their deaths. This reference gives also information on the line from John Fray. John had six children, according to this reference, including Ephraim, who is referenced here: Aaron (m. Lucy Snyder), Moses (m. first Mary Hoffman and second Susannah Sellers), Mary (m. Peter Clore), Margaret "Peggy" (m. first Frederick Hoffman and second Joshua Fleshman), and Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" (m. Elisha Hoffman). This book is "Madison County Homes", by Vee Dove, a beautiful "coffee-table" type book with photographs and stories of old homes and genealogy information. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 75-28573. Published privately by the author in 1975 and sold by the author only. Her name is now Mrs. Vee Dove Tull, and the last address I had was: S.R. 2, Box 9, Madison, VA. Cost of the book when I bought it directly from her home in 1982 was $25, and a bargain.

I got all of this line from Mrs. Madeline Swetnam of 931 W. Reed, Moberly, MO

I got this message concerning his wife:

"Usually John Fray's wife is given as Rebecca Yowell. B.C. Holtzclaw doubted this as he could find no evidence that there ever was a Rebecca Yowell. In the Hebron Lutheran Church baptisms, the evidence is that she was a Swindell. (If she were in my ancestry, I would have no hestitation in saying she was a Swindell.) As a Swindell, she carries back to the Germanna family of Crees/Greys. The details on this have been given in an article in Beyond Germanna.

Rebecca YOWELL [Parents] was born about 1723 in , , Virginia. She died about 1791 in , , Virginia and was buried in Cherry Hill Cem., Madison Co., Virginia. Rebecca married John FRAY.

Both John and Rebecca are buried at their home place at Cherry Hill. Her date of death must have been close to the known date of her husband's, as her name last appears on the Hebron Lutheran Church records in 1791. The dates of birth of both are unknown, and I put down a very rough estimate. See the note under her husband, which says that she was probably a Swindell. If the above records do not show her maiden name, that might be a possibility.
