James William WAYLAND [Parents] 1 was born in Jan 1850 in , Ralls Co., Missouri. He died in Ava, Jackson Co., Illinois. James married Mary L..

Other marriages:
WARD, Martha

Went by "Jim", according to Ivan Stewart. He was a farmer.

James is found as James W. Wayland in the 1900 census in Jackson Co., Illinois as being age 50, born March 1850 in Missouri. His wife is Mary L., age 34, born July 1865 in Illinois. Fannie is listed as dtr., and there is a "Logan B.L. Pyror", born March 1878, age 22, born Illinois, living with them. James is living in the same township as his brother Albert G.

Mary L. was born in Jul 1865 in , , Illinois. She married James William WAYLAND.

Info on wife courtesy of Ivan Stewart. Idora Wayland has her name as Martha and Ivan has it Mary. She is found in the 1900 census as Mary L. (see info. under her husband). I think that it is likely that James was married twice and that his first wife was named Martha and he remarried to Mary L. Evidence for this is as follows: James had a son Fred, born 1878, and this Mary was born in 1865, making her only 13 when Fred was born. Also, Mary is quite a bit younger than James and this is more common with a second wife than a first. My source gives the reference of Jackson Co. Illinois Marriage Book C, but gives no dates for the marriage. Source also lists: Vol 95, ED 15, Sheet 11, Line 59, but doesn't say if this is for the marriage book or the census record.

They had the following children:

  F i Living

Solomon WILHOIT [Parents] was born in 1762 in Culpeper Co., VA. He died in 1824 in Greene Co., TN.

NOTE: B, p.73

Mollie F. UTZ was born about 1860 in Virginia. She died before 1909. Mollie married James N. CARPENTER.

Henry SNIVELY was born about 1803. He married Keziah CALLAWAY on 17 Mar 1840 in Clark Co., Missouri.

Other marriages:
WAYLAND, Harriet Ann

NOTE: B, p.14

Apparently married Harriet in 1848 after marrying Keziah, widow of Fielding Wayland (B1), who died in 1843. (Unless there are two Henry Snively's). Vicki Maddox has his name as "Zachary" Snively, and says that he was a brother or son of Henry Snively, but county marriage records plainly state that she married Henry Snively. This will take some research. Henry had title of "Judge". Vicki also has marriage as 22 Jan 1848, but my dates are directly from the marriage book in county records.

Ancestry.com marriage records sho that "Snively, Henry married Wayland, Keziah on 17 Mar 1840 in Clark County, MIssouri."

Keziah CALLAWAY was born on 6 Jan 1816. She died in 1843 in Clark Co., Missouri. Keziah married Henry SNIVELY on 17 Mar 1840 in Clark Co., Missouri.

Other marriages:
WAYLAND, Fielding Dr.

NOTE: B, p.14

Keziah Calloway first married Fielding Wayland (B1) and then Henry Snively. Therefore, Clark Co. Marriage records show her as a Wayland marrying Snively.

There is a Stephen Callaway, age 38 on the 1850 Howard Co. Census, page 195a: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/howard/census/1850/195a.gif
May be a brother to Keziah.

I have a copy of a letter from this man, dated 1940, giving his line as he knew it. He lists his father's brothers and other family members. He was a physician writing from the Veterans Hospital, Jefferson Barracks, MO. I have an article with a dim picture of him, as well as his obituary. He moved to Camdenton from St. Louis at the age of 67 and was still practicing medicine there at the age of 85 when an article was written about him. It further states that he served as a senior instructor in surgery at St. Louis Univ. for 8 years, was chief of surgical service at Jefferson Barracks (from where letter was written) for 5 years, chief of staff at Alexian Brothers Hospital in St. Louis and chief surgeon in the VA Hospital in Atlanta, GA for 3 years. He helped open the VA Hospital in Marion, IL and was its director for 2 years. He was discharged from the US Army as a Lt.Col. in 1947. While in practice in Camdenton, the article states that "he never sent out statements of debts and has been paid many times in beef steaks, vegetables, fish fillets, eggs or perhaps years later in installments or sometimes never." At the age of 85, the article states that "Dr. and Mrs. Wayland now live in Linn Creek where he reads medical journals to keep up and pursues his hobbies of photography, coin collecting, Civil War history and music." The mayor proclaimed May 12-18 Dr. Thomas Wayland Week. Since he was 85, this must have been 1976, a year before his death. His obit. mentions a wife "Nina" being there at the funeral. She must be a second wife of Thomas, as it mentions a "stepson" Eddie McClug. Obituary says that he graduated from Univ. of IL medical school in 1915.

Nina was born on 12 Sep 1889. She died in Sep 1980 in , , Illinois. Nina married Thomas Alfred WAYLAND.

Dates are from SSDI.
