In 1880 Chariton Co. Missouri census, p.15 of Wayland Township (named after her Uncle Eli B57) is found A.L. Maupin, age 27 and Lulie Maupin, age 21, next to her brother, R.C. Wayland. Her marriage is listed in the Howard County Marriage Index, Vol. 4, p.246 on same date as brother, R.C., so they must have been close and had a double wedding. Orpha Lou was actually age 23 in the 1880 census, not 21, according to previous two censuses showing her 13 and 3. She married two other times, but never had issue. She is listed as still surviving in the 1939 obit of her sister, Euphia, as "Mrs. Lula Clemson of Moberly".
John Nicholas WAYLAND [Parents] was born on 10 May 1860 in , , Missouri. He died on 15 Mar 1921 in Huntsville, Howard Co., Missouri. John married Lois RATLIFF on 17 Aug 1904 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

There is a "J.N. Wayland" shown as deputy recorder of deeds in Randolph County at the turn of the century, and signs most of the marriage documents then. He married in 1904, age 44 to a 28 year old woman, Lois Ratliff. I have since confirmed that this is the same two individuals from Mrs. Swetnam's records. I have his birthdate as both 1860 & 1861, and death date as both 1921 & 1922.
In the 1860 census, taken June 1, he is 2/12 yrs old (two months old), so 1860 is correct.
Lois RATLIFF [Parents] was born on 21 Apr 1876 in Missouri. She died on 28 May 1964 and was buried in Oakland Cem., Moberly, Missouri, Lot #110. Lois married John Nicholas WAYLAND on 17 Aug 1904 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

NOTE: I corresponded with this lady on genealogy. She was employed in the Randolph Co. Recorders's office for many years. Never married. Member of the Baptist church, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of the D.A.R. The only surviving members of her family given in the obituary that I have are: Mary Jane Wayland (sister-in-law) of Macon, MO; a niece, Dr. Patricia Wayland McWilliams; and three cousins, Josephine Ware and Pauline Hunt of Moberly and Betty Martin of Hillsboro. She really was age 17 at the time and stretched it perhaps for her job, as brother "Nicholas" was listed as age 19 in same census. George Nelson RATLIFF was born on 28 Feb 1843 in , Macon Co., Missouri. He died in Mar 1931 and was buried in Moberly Cem., , Missouri. George married Julia Josephine TERRILL on 14 May 1874.
The book, "Old Families of Randolph County, Missouri", on p. 286 says that George was in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was a teacher and worked at the office of the County Com. of Education and served as the Commissioner for Schools in Randolph Co. In 1886, he was elected Sheriff of Randolph Co. and re-elected in 1888. In 1890 he was elected County Collector and re-elected in 1892. After 4 years as collector, he moved his family to the Cedar Home Fruit Farm where he farmed along with his sons.
