Cecil WAYLAND [Parents] was born on 5 Jan 1855 in Roanoke, Howard Co., Missouri. He died on 10 Aug 1938 and was buried in Salisbury Cem., , Missouri. Cecil married Carrie BLAKEY on 26 Feb 1881 in Salisbury, , Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.31,32,40,51,52; History of Chariton and Howard Counties, p.833,844

The above reference has considerable information on Cecil and his life. As always, the "B" refers to my book, "Wayland Families in 19th Century Missouri", by John T. Wayland, Jr. (B205), available from Missouri library sources.

Carrie BLAKEY was born on 17 Aug 1856 in Charlottesville, , Virginia. She died on 6 Apr 1891 and was buried in Salisbury Cem., , Missouri. Carrie married Cecil WAYLAND on 26 Feb 1881 in Salisbury, , Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.51,52

Came from Virginia to Paris, MO., to stay with her brother, W.C. Blakey, and there met Cecil. Apparently was sickly, as husband's biography states that they went to New Mexico and spent three years on a ranch due to her health.

They had the following children:

F i Kathryne L. "Kate" WAYLAND was born on 19 Mar 1887 in , , Missouri. She died on 1 Apr 1978 in , , Missouri and was buried in Salisbury Cem., , Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.51,52

Kate graduated Missouri University and St. Mary's Institute at Memphis, Tenn. When her mother died in 1891, Kate was only 3 or 4 years old. Her father's biography lists her as being born in 1888, but her stone (which I believe she must have arranged for) says she was born in 1887. Apparently Kate never married and it is not known what she did...perhaps a school teacher.

Rolund C. WAYLAND [Parents] was born in 1857 in , , Missouri. He married Beulah O'NEAL on 8 Feb 1899 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.31,32,89

His marriage to Beulah is supposed, but it would be a late marriage at the age of 42, like his brother James's marriage. Marriage is in Vol. 6, p. 227 of the Randolph County, Missouri Marriage Index of a R.C. Wayland marrying a "Beulah O'Neal", 8 Feb. 1899. Don't know who else this could be. Could be Robert Wayland, son of Fountain.

Beulah O'NEAL was born about 1870. She married Rolund C. WAYLAND on 8 Feb 1899 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

J. D. HEAD was born about 1860. He died after 1922 in Portland, , Oregon. J. married Elizabeth "Lizzie" WAYLAND on 22 Dec 1884 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.31,32,90

Elizabeth "Lizzie" WAYLAND [Parents] was born in 1867 in Roanoke, Howard Co., Missouri. She died after 1922 in Portland, , Oregon. Elizabeth married J. D. HEAD on 22 Dec 1884 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.31,32,90

Moved to Portland, Oregon with husband and presumably died there.

Nicholas DYSART [Parents] was born on 8 Jan 1804 in Lexington, , Kentucky. He died on 12 Feb 1896 in Yates, , Missouri. Nicholas married Euphemia Donnelly GIVENS on 22 Nov 1827 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

First name is given as "James" in story under son Benjamin. But, this would be unusual, as Nicholas had a brother named James.

In the biography in the notes under his son William, his dob and place of birth is different. It says:

"Nicholas DYSART, the father of William, was born in Tennessee, November 18, 1800, and emigrated to Howard county, Missouri, in 1818. After a residence in this county of two years he removed to Randolph county, where he now lives at the advanced age of 83. The mother's maiden name was Euphemia GIVENS. She was born in Kentucky."

Census of Randolph Co., 1830, finished 8 Nov 1830, was done by Nicholas Dysart. Apparently he was an educated man.

Euphemia Donnelly GIVENS [Parents] was born on 11 Nov 1810 in , Lincoln Co., Kentucky. She died on 7 Dec 1888 in Yates, , Missouri. Euphemia married Nicholas DYSART on 22 Nov 1827 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

They had the following children:

  F i Martha Willis DYSART
  F ii Mary A. DYSART
M iii James E. DYSART was born in 1832. He died in 1860/1865.

Died in Civil War in Chariton County. See note under brother Benjamin.
M iv Benjamin G. DYSART was born in 1834 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

He was apparently a surgeon in the Civil War. See the following:

Dysart, Benjamin F. -- Surgeon, 5th MO Inf. Served as Surgeon of the 4th
Inf. Reg. MSG. Enlisted 1 Sep 1861, as Surgeon of the 1st Battalion Inf.
Mar 1862, then to the 5th in Sep 1862. Served with this unit from Elkhorn
to Franklin, TN. He was left behind with the wounded at Corinth & Port
Gibson, but was allowed to rejoin his unit. Kept as a POW after the battle
of Franklin, TN. He was born in Rand. Co. & is the son of James & Euphemia (Givans) Dysart. He was one of 9 children. He had 2 brothers who died
during the war, James E. in Chariton Co. & Robert R. age 24, in Howard Co. After the war he opened a medical practice in Paris, Monroe Co., MO. Ref:
CSR, RCH84
  M v William P. DYSART
M vi Robert R. DYSART was born in 1836. He died in 1864.

Killed in the Civil War in Howard County. See note under brother Benjamin.
M vii Charles N. DYSART was born about 1838.

Nothing on him and it is questionable that he is a child, as the note under William above says that there were 9 children.
  M viii John T. DYSART
  F ix Kizzie DYSART

Romulus Caliphurnia WAYLAND [Parents] was born on 27 May 1848 in Roanoke, , Missouri. He died on 4 Mar 1933 in Kansas City, , Missouri. Romulus married Joella MAGRUDER on 23 Mar 1876 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,52,89,90; See also addendum to B

Marriage to Joella is from Howard County, Missouri Marriage Index, Vol. 4, p. 246. I am indebted to Mrs. Swetnam for the information on his descendants. I have also a copy of 2 letters written to a R.C. Wayland of Yates, MO (in Randolph Co.) on Sept. 25, 1932, and apparently he answered just before his death. His grand dtr., Mrs. Swetnam (#1830) has R.C.'s date of death as being 4 Mar 1832. I feel that it must have been in 1833, due to the date of these letters. The letters mention his sister, Mrs. Negley, and he does have a sister, Charlie Dysart Wayland who m. a Negley, so this must be same man.

Joella MAGRUDER was born on 22 Aug 1855 in , Howard Co., Missouri. She died on 27 Aug 1924 in Kansas City, , Missouri. Joella married Romulus Caliphurnia WAYLAND on 23 Mar 1876 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.52,89; See also addendum to B

They had the following children:

  M i John Thomas WAYLAND
  F ii Lulie Price WAYLAND
  F iii Charlie Dysart WAYLAND
  F iv Nannie Willis WAYLAND
  F v Benjamin Caliphurnia WAYLAND
  F vi Mabel Milton WAYLAND

James W. WALLACE was born about 1850. He died on 1 Mar 1926. James married Euphia A. WAYLAND on 20 Jan 1881 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,89. Also info. furnished by Mrs. Swetnam.

Euphia A. WAYLAND [Parents] was born on 24 Nov 1852 in Roanoke, , Missouri. She died in Nov 1939 in Armstrong. Euphia married James W. WALLACE on 20 Jan 1881 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,89

Married in double wedding ceremony with sister, Fannie. Euphia (Euphemia) is named after mother's mother. I have copy of her obituary in the Roanoke paper.
It says she married J.W. Wallace in 1887, but he died "several years ago" (printed in November, 1939).

They had the following children:

  M i James Brown WALLACE
  F ii Martha Willis WALLACE
  F iii Mary McBraye WALLACE

David GOOCH was born about 1852. He married Mary K. WAYLAND on 23 Feb 1873 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,90

Mary K. WAYLAND [Parents] "Molly" was born on 6 Apr 1854 in , , Missouri. She died in 1954 in Salisbury, , Missouri. Molly married David GOOCH on 23 Feb 1873 in , Randolph Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,90

Lived to be age 100. According to Mrs. Seetnam, she married (as Mollie) David Gooch (see p. 90 for marriage index). Her children are known. She was known to my father (B163) as a child as "Aunt Fell Gooch".

They had the following children:

F i Della Blanche GOOCH was born on 24 Jan 1874.

Had one dtr.
F ii Martha F. GOOCH was born about 1876.
M iii Joe Ronnie GOOCH was born about 1878.
F iv Dixie S. GOOCH was born on 5 Feb 1881.

Tyrie H. PATTERSON was born about 1853. He married Martha V. WAYLAND on 12 Apr 1877 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,89. First name spelled slightly differently:

Married at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. John H. WAYLAND, near Roanoke, on Thursday, April 12, 1877, Mr. Tyre PATTERSON and Miss Mattie WAYLAND, both of Howard County.

Since he named descendant was named Rice, I wonder if the following article in the 1896 newspaper in Howard Co., MO could be referring to his father Rice and his brother, Thomas:

THOMAS C. PATTERSON, son of the late RICE PATTERSON, was born in Howard county one mile west of Roanoke, December 21, 1843. Mr. Patterson is at present engaged in farming and stock raising and the stock breeding industry. He owns a large and fertile farm one half mile west of Roanoke, being very convenient to the town. His farm is located in both Howard and Randolph counties, his residence is located just over the line in Randolph county. Mr. Patterson has for several years been engaged in the stockbreeding industry and has always kept a good class of stock. He has been quite a successful agriculturalist. He has ever manifested great interest in educational affairs, and was director of the Roanoke public school for several years. His two oldest daughters, NEOLA and GRACIE, were educated at Stephens College, Columbia, Mo. Mr. Patterson has been a deacon in the Roanoke Baptist church for a number of years, and is one of the main pillars of that church. He is truly one of the most substantial liberal hearted and best citizens the community affords. He has always been a staunch friend of the HERALD. He was united in marriage March 16th, 1869 to Miss LAURA B. PATTERSON. They have four children, three girls and one boy.

Below may also relate to his family. It comes from HISTORY OF HOWARD AND COOPER COUNTIES, 1883 (Prairie Township)

That is found at:
https://sites.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/howard/howard.htm

JAMES H. PATTERSON,

farmer. Mr. PATTERSON is of Irish descent. Littlebury PATTERSON, his ancestor of the fourth generation, lived and died in Virginia, where he reared a family of eight children. Thomas PATTERSON, a son of Littlebury, and grandfather of James H., settled in Madison county, Kentucky, in about 1800, and there married Mary, a daughter of William HARVEY, who afterwards became an early settler of Prairie township, this county. In 1817 Thomas PATTERSON removed to this county with his family, where he lived until his death. He reared a large family of children, and of these, Rice, the father of James H., was born before the parents left Kentucky, February 25, 1811, in Madison county. He was married in this county in the spring of 1838 to Miss Cordelia G., daughter of David MARTIN, an early settler of the county. He died here June 15, 1877, his wife following him to the grave January 5, 1881. He was a man of great industry, enterprise, and of a high order of intelligence. Beginning life for himself without anything, he became one of the foremost men of the county in wealth and character. Esteemed by all who knew him as an upright, progressive citizen and a good neighbor, he died possessed of a large estate consisting of over 1,300 acres of fine land, and large personal property interests besides. Flat- boating, teaming across the plains, clerking, merchandising, farming, and the stock business, mark his successive steps from youth and penury to honored old age and wealth. For over twenty years he and his wife were exemplary members of the Baptist church. James H. PATTERSON was born in this county August 4, 1850, and was the fifth of a family of seven children. He was educated in the common schools, and in William Jewell college, of Liberty, Missouri. He began the activities of life at his majority by engaging in merchandising in Roanoke.

He followed this until 1881, when he turned his whole attention to farming. In the meantime, in 1879, he had commenced farming, and since then he has continued in that occupation with excellent success. He has a good farm, substantially and comfortably improved. March 19, 1874, he was married to Miss Bettie EDDINS, of this county. They have two children, James C. and Nadine G. Mr. P. is a member of the Baptist church.

Also, I wonder if this could be his father, since he named a son this (from the Moberly Daily Enterprise Monitor:

"Patterson, Rice -- d. 15 Jan aged 66y of Howard Co; MDM Thursday 18 Jan 1877"

Martha V. WAYLAND [Parents] "Mattie" was born on 10 Jul 1855 in , , Missouri. She died before 1939. Mattie married Tyrie H. PATTERSON on 12 Apr 1877 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

NOTE: B, p.34,89. Her children are known, courtesy of Mrs. Swetnam.
As she is not listed in obit of sister Euphia in 1939, she died before then. Another article says that she had a child "Tyre" which may have been the first or middle name of the sons listed. The below appeared:

THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 1877, The Howard County Advertiser:

For information on the Maupin line, write Phyllis J. Bauer, 3510 W. Turnberry Dr., McHenry, IL 60050-7557. Ph. 815-385-9626

Orpha Lou WAYLAND [Parents] "Lulie" was born on 6 Mar 1858 in , , Missouri. She died after 1939 in Moberly, Randolph Co., Missouri. Lulie married Addison L. MAUPIN on 23 Mar 1876 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

In 1880 Chariton Co. Missouri census, p.15 of Wayland Township (named after her Uncle Eli B57) is found A.L. Maupin, age 27 and Lulie Maupin, age 21, next to her brother, R.C. Wayland. Her marriage is listed in the Howard County Marriage Index, Vol. 4, p.246 on same date as brother, R.C., so they must have been close and had a double wedding. Orpha Lou was actually age 23 in the 1880 census, not 21, according to previous two censuses showing her 13 and 3. She married two other times, but never had issue. She is listed as still surviving in the 1939 obit of her sister, Euphia, as "Mrs. Lula Clemson of Moberly".

Frank YATES was born about 1855. He married Orpha Lou WAYLAND.
