Edmond CLORE [Parents] was born in 1799 in Madison Co., Virginia. He died about 1850 in Virginia. Edmond married Nancy MILLER on 1 Dec 1824 in Madison Co., Virginia.
I have put the year of death as he is probably the Edmond Clore in the below story. However, this needs to be verified:
"Dove, p.260, shows a photo of the famous tavern and home in Madison, Va., which was owned by Thomas Carpenter. Thomas was shot and killed in 1850 and his assailant hanged. It seems that Thomas whipped the son of Edmund Clore for some offense. Clore became uncontrollably angry, came into town, and shot Thomas Carpenter dead when he came out of his tavern. Seeing him dead, Clore became frightened, ran and hid under the Episcopal Church. A warrent was obtained, he was arrested and sentenced to be hanged. As the hour of execution approached, apparently an eclipse of the sun took place. A large crowd was there and this caused considerable consternation, as was seen as a divine providence. When it passed, the prisoner was hanged anyway. The tavern also served as a schoolhouse, according to Dove, but certainly not at the same time. It was the family residence and served as an exchange for carriages and stagecoaches traveling the Blue Ridge turnpike from Petersburg to Staunton."
When I posted the above story, I received the below note 10/99, which caused me to put this line back on Clore as the possible person in the story:
[This could be the Edmond Clore: born 1799 in Madison Co, VA; married Nancy Miller 1 Dec 1824 Madison Co.; son of John Wesley Clore and Francis "Fanny" Major. John Wesley was the son of Michael "Big Mike" Clore and Margaret Weaver. Michael was the son of George Clore (Johann Georg Klaar) who in turn was the son of the immigrant Michael Clore. Louisa Elizabeth CRISLER [Parents] was born on 12 Feb 1824 in Virginia. She married Thomas Jefferson BERREY on 11 Jan 1849.
Her birth date is given as 1824 in the transcription of the bible mentioned in her father's notes. But, this was before her marriage and the "4" can look like an "8" and this is probably an error by the transcriber of what was in the bible. This is confirmed as the date is given as 1828 by Vee Dove on p. 187, and the 1828
date is confirmed by the 1850 census, which shows Louisa E. Berrey, age 22, and Thomas P. Berrey, age 1, living in the household of Nelly Crisler.
