John S. MCCANNE was born about 1840. He married Virginia YATES.
I wonder if the below notices in the Randolph Co., MO newspaper could be a relative:
"Halliburton, Charlie -- & T. P. McCanne, left this morning for Maryville to operate a 99 cent store; Moberly Daily Monitor, Monday 27 Feb 1882"
"McCanne, Mrs. T. B. -- visiting her brother in Independence, Elder Alex. Proctor; MDM Saturday 2 Sep 1882"
Virginia YATES [Parents] was born in 1842. She married John S. MCCANNE.
I may have husband's name wrong. I received this 10/99 from Ed Kutz < [email protected]>:
Virginia McCanne died in Los Angeles on a visit with her family. She had visited with her neice, Lucy Dukes in Martinez. I have a newspaper clipping regarding her death (following). I show her as being married once, to W. T. McCanne, and had four children. I have no listing of a John S. McCanne.
From a Los Angeles, CA newspaper:
"Funeral Is Held For Mrs. M'Canne, Gov. Hunt's Aunt.
"Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Yates McCanne, an indirect descendant of John Marshall and a resident of Los Angeles for the past 16 years, were conducted last Friday afternoon at the undertaking parlors of L. F. Utter, 4254 South Broadway.
"Mrs. McCanne, who would have been 85 years old on November 23, died at the home of her son, Earle R. McCanne, 714 West Forty-third street last Wednesday. She was near Darksville and Huntsville, Mo., and became the wife of W. T. McCanne, who later became mayor of Moberly, Mo. "Governot Hunt of Arizona, who is a nephew of Mrs. McCanne, came to be present at her funeral. In an address he eulogized her and declared she had been an inspiration throughout his life. The services were conducted by Rev. Bruce Brown, pastor of the South Park Christian Church. The body was cremated and the ashes will be placed in the grave of her husband at Moberly. "Mrs, McCanne leaves two sons, Earle R. McCanne, member of the city engineer's staff, and Warwick McCanne, a Spanish War veteran of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Mrs. Jeanette Allen of Los Angeles, Mrs. Helen Jennings of Moberly, Mo., James William Martin of Chicago, and Grace Nelson and Roscoe Martin McCane, both of Los Angeles; also two great-grandchildren, John P.,
jr., and James Martin Allen of Los Angeles." [end]I don't know whether you are searching for names or accuracy for your homepage. I would be careful and request documentation before posting all of those Winn names. I probably have most of them in my database, but will only share documented and valid information. I don't, and won't maintain a website. I am too aware of the inaccuracies of others, like Family Tree Maker, and the LDS.
I also have stuff that takes the Yates line back to God (at least it seems to), but I don't research beyond the North American shores.
