"The eldest son of Mr. and Mrs Thomas (Addison) Grigsby, of Muskingum County, Ohio, was Henry A. Grigsby, born July 24, 1829. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Grigsby - ten boys and two girls. About 1839 they moved to Howard County and settled near Fayette. The subject of this sketch, Henry A. Grigsby, was united in marriage in September, 1849, to Miss Mary Blanton. Mr. and Mrs. Grigsby and family moved to Pilot Grove
twenty-eight years ago the seventh day of next April. Nine children were born to this union and the names of the surviving children are as follows: Mrs. Ida Young, Rocheport; E.M. Grigsby, Livingston, Montana; Mrs. J.W. Wayland, Fayette; Mrs. W.E. Roberts, Pilot Grove; Victor Grigsby, Livingston, Montana; Mrs. C.P. Mitzel, Bel Air.
After coming to Pilot Grove, Mr. Grigsby and his eldest son, E.M. Grigsby, engaged in the shoe business here. In the big fire of 1899 their store was destroyed and shortly after they discontinued their business here. Since that time Mr. Grigsby had been living a quiet, peaceful life, surrounded by the many loving friends that he had made during the time spent
in this city.
About three years ago he had an attack of sickness and since that time he had been in feeble health, although he was able to be out. About two weeks ago he became very ill and suffered a mental collapse, which caused his death at 6:30 last Saturday evening. (Died 2-17-1912)
Six brothers and one sister survive him: Azariah, Clarke; Luther, Rocheport; William, Dallas, Texas; Albert, Springfield, Missouri; James, Fayette; David, State Hospital, Nevada; Mrs. Albert (Maggie) Wayland, Fayette.
