"John - found a Lowry family you might be interested in. On page 768 household 66 there are a few Lowrys present in the household of Joseph Turner. They are Sallie Lowry (28), Thomas J. Lowry (9), John A. Lowry (7) and (on page 769) Willie Lowry. I think this is the wife and children of William Tolman Lowry as their ages seem about right.

The Willie on the following page is part of the group, but I don't know who he is unless that is a knickname for Mollie or Georgia."

Joseph Turner was the father of Sallie, widow of William T. Lowry.

"Old Families of Randolph County, Missouri" on p. 177 states that "He was born at Old Franklin on July 18, 1828 and died in 1878." It also states that he was "a descendant of one of the first pioneer families that settled in what was known as the Boonslick Country."

McCulley Haines Cemetery in Randolph Co MO

Finally found and visited this small cemetery just 1.5 miles SOUTH EAST of Thomas Hill MO. In section 6-- Township 54N-- Range 15W on the East side of Rural Road 85. It contains only 22 known tombstones primarly from the Family of

Jonathan and Elizabeth WRIGHT HAINES of Randolph Co. My ggg grandparents.

Some Surnames buried there are....

McCULLEY HAINES SKINNER PIERCE GREEN MALONE GRAVES HONING LOWERY BRADLEY

The only listing I have ever seen of this cemetery is found in the Randolph Co Hist Soc in Moberly, and was taken by Virginia DARR ALEXANDER in May of 1982

Unfortunitly she gave the wrong directions and the wrong sec/twn/range numbers as well. Making it extremely difficult to find in the Coal mining strip fields around Thomas Hill. After several 200 round mile trips to the area, I finally found it in the middle of a farmers field. Unmarked and unkept and over grown, with many of the stones buried and over turned.

I was searching for Elizabeth HAINES GRAVES. Mrs Alexander listed an Elizabeth Graves in her 1982 cem. listing, but the date didnt fit. Since the cem. listing included HER mother and many of her brothers and sisters. I wanted to see the stone for myself.

I found it this last Sunday afternoon. Sure enough the weathered stone was there, hard to read, but in the right light, one of my gg-grandmother's mysteries ended.

Below I will post Mrs Alexander's list with some corrections. Maybe others will find lost ancestors as I have done....

NOTE:::::: I want to personally thank Mrs Alexander for transcribing this list without her I would have NEVER found my Elizabeth GRAVES. And should NOT be taken as Criticism of her or anyone else that transcribes stones. The stones are very very old and weathered with many years of neglect. The job of transcrbing tombstones in a cemetery like this is EXTREMELY hard it is over grown with multiflora rose and thick brush I took my notes as I came accross stones and did not have the aid of Mrs Alexanders list with me at the time. I am only POSITIVE about MY reading of Elizabeth GRAVES' stone. The other corrections SHOULD only be taken to alert others of how hard it is to read some of these older stones and there might be errors in this or any other list.
