From printed obituary I received from Dr. DeGruson at Pittsburg State Univ.:
"She grew up in Girard and graduated from Girard HS in 1912. She graduated from Kansas State University at Emporia in 1915. She was the founder, owner, and editor of the nationally circulated weekly, 'Appeal to Reason' at the turn of the century. She married Herman H. Stephenson in 1915. The couple resided in Michigan, Kansas, and Arizona until Mr. Stephenson's death in 1973. Mrs. Stephenson then moved to Santa Barbara in 1982.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean S. Maynard of Monarch Beach, Calif., and Virginia S. Lashley of San Marino, Calif.; two sons, Wayland A. Stephenson of Santa Barbara and H. Howard Stephenson of Honolulu, Hawaii; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jon Wayland and Walter Wayland; and three sisters, Myra, Olive Soudry, and Judy Hargiss. Memorial services were held Oct. 11, at Santa Barbara. Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Girard Cemetary with the Rev. Robert Bardeen officiating."
