Robert Edward WAYLAND [Parents] 1 was born about 1865 in , Madison Co., Virginia. He died after 1928.
He witnessed his mother's widow pension in 1928 Madison Co., VA. His signature looks like he is educated.
He had the following children:
M i Robert E. WAYLAND 1 was born on 13 Aug 1906 in , Madison Co., Virginia. He died on 26 Jan 1995 in , Madison Co., Virginia.
Still living with sister, Louise, at unknown age on my visit in summer of 1981 to Madison Co., Va. He was getting senile and sister would not let him be interviewed. Unknown if he had any children.
I found the dob and dod on SSDI and presume it to be him as it was the only Robert Wayland in Madison Co. about that age.F ii Louise WAYLAND 1 was born about 1910 in , Madison Co., Virginia. She died after 1981.
Author visited with her in her home just outside of Madison, Va., in the summer of 1981. She would tell nothing of the family, had a "No Tresspassing" sign in front yard and said that she threw away all inquiries forwarded to her concerning the Wayland genealogy. She was not informative on her line.
Lewis E. WAYLAND [Parents] was born on 2 Jan 1812 in , Augusta Co., Kentucky. He died on 1 Jan 1868 in Warrensburg, , Missouri. Lewis married Janette "Jane" HORN in 1835.
NOTE: A, p.96; B, p.11, 18; also see addendum for info. from Harley Wayland. Vicki Maddox says that he was killed by a team of horses. John Giles sent me copies of several documents stating that there was a Lewis E. Wayland who was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Montgomery, Indiana Volunteers in 1846. This must be the same Lewis as he is reported in the 1850 Montgomery Co. Union Township Census. Please note information on Lewis and his wife in the notes of their daughter, Catherine Jane. Vicki Maddox gives the place of marriage as Bloomfield, Iowa, but I don't know her sources for this. She also says that "Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds, Court of Appeals Deeds, Grantors" hs him listed in Augusta Co., deed date 6/17/1842, 175 acres, Book 27 pg. 290, Watercourse Severn and Cedar Creek. He also is listed in same Book 27, pg. 291 with 140 acres, same location.
I have no knowledge that this could be him, but I have not found another possibility as yet:
WAYLAND, Lewis Pvt, srv in Hickman's Co of the 1st Regt of MO Mtd Vols in the war of 1832

Vicki Maddox gives birthdate as 23 Feb 1812, and says that her maiden name might have been "Bottom" as it is given as this by her grandaughter on Catherine's death certificate. After Lewis's death, Jane ran a boarding house in Bloomfield, Iowa, then moved to Cornwalis, Montana with her children. I have a copy of her obit, which is short: "Mrs. Janette Wayland, aged 88, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Horn, on Willow Creek, after a lingering illness. NOTE: notes from descendant. Also, Mrs. Bill (Edith) Wayland, Route 1, Cabool, MO 65689 is researching this line, since her husband's death in 1988. She sent me a copy of an article on the house that J.F. built in Washington, Kansas that was a showplace. He moved there after marrying his second wife. The house was a three story mansion containing the town's first bath tub and water system. Indoor plumbing was unknown at the time (built 1888). John was a bridge contractor and bridge cables running from the basement to the attic made it one of the sturdiest, best built houses in the country. There is also an article dated Mar 3, 1916 in the Republican-Register about John F.'s death in 1916 of heart trouble in the State Asylum at Osawattomie, after a long mental illness. Most likely this was Alzhimer's Disease, as it struck him late in life.

Dtr. Beatrice says, "mama's side have been in this country since 1621 in the same locality in Maine where she was born, so I had no trouble tracing those records." Beatrice says that "mama was administrative dean at Crescent College for Girls." She said that mame was living at Eureka Springs, Ark when the letter was written in 1937 and it is not known if the defunct college was located there or not.A letter written by Beatrice Jan 1952 talks about rushing "Mama" to the hospital. I assume that it is this woman, but it may be husband's mama.
