Adam WAYLAND [Parents] 1 was born on 22 Feb 1777/1778 in , Madison Co., Virginia. He died in 1851 in , Madison Co., Virginia. Adam married Judah "Judith" BURKE on 24 Nov 1803 in , Culpeper Co., Virginia.

Other marriages:
, Sarah

Served on first grand jury in 1809. His signature is on a petition "December 8, 1801, Madison, Culpeper, Inhabitants of Bromfield Parish, for sale of glebe" at:

Judah "Judith" BURKE 1 was born about 1778 in , , Virginia. She died in 1822 in , Madison Co., Virginia. Judah married Adam WAYLAND on 24 Nov 1803 in , Culpeper Co., Virginia.

Madison Co. W.B. No. 6, p. 152; and W. B. 4, p. 154. Adam and Judith are mentioned as selling land in Madison Co. D.B. 4, pp. 307 and 309.

They had the following children:

M i John Burk WAYLAND 1 was born on 24 Nov 1804 in , Madison Co., Virginia. He died on 31 Jul 1844 in , , Missouri.

The Boonslick Times newspaper, Aug, 1844 says that there is a John W. Wayland, "formerly of Madison Co., Va." who died in Mo. July 31, 1844 at age 39. This has the wrong middle initial, but the exact age this John would be. He is also apparently a bachelor as this John was, so I am assuming it is the same one and using that date of death. He is not mentioned in his father's will of 1851, nor are any heirs, so it is apparent he preceded his father in death. John's birth is noted in Hebron Church records and he and his father witnessed a deed together on June 8, 1832 (Madison Co. D.B. 11, p. 258).
M ii Albert Gallitin WAYLAND Major
F iii Susan WAYLAND 1 was born about 1807 in , , Virginia.

Married first (unk) Idson, and (unk) Stewart or Steward (from Bob Wayland).
  M iv Edwin Adam WAYLAND
  M v William H. WAYLAND 1 was born about 1812 in , , Virginia.

Living in Augusta Co., Va. in 1839 when he and his brothers are deeded land by their father. He apparently died before father, as unmentioned in will. William's obituary was found by Dr. J.W. Wayland and his notes state that William was a Civil War veteran who spent the last 32 years of his life in mining interests in New Mexico, and never married.
F vi Martha F. WAYLAND 1 was born in 1816 in , , Virginia. She died after 1850.

Unmarried and living in her father's home in 1850 Census.
  M vii Nathaniel S. WAYLAND
M viii James O. WAYLAND 1 was born in 1821 in , , Virginia. He died after 1850.

Living unmarried with father's family in 1850 census. The following may be him:

This is from the National Archives. 10th Virginia Infantry, Terrence V. Murphy (leader), page 173:

"Wayland, James O. enlisted 10/17/64 Camp Lee near Richmond as Pvt.,Co. L. Wounded about 2/65. Hosp. 2/8/65 Chimborazo, Richmond wound left arm. Wayside Hosp 3/29/65."

Adam WAYLAND [Parents] 1 was born on 22 Feb 1777/1778 in , Madison Co., Virginia. He died in 1851 in , Madison Co., Virginia. Adam married Sarah about 1824 in , , Virginia.

Other marriages:
BURKE, Judah "Judith"

Served on first grand jury in 1809. His signature is on a petition "December 8, 1801, Madison, Culpeper, Inhabitants of Bromfield Parish, for sale of glebe" at:

Sarah was born in 1792. She died after 1851. Sarah married Adam WAYLAND about 1824 in , , Virginia.

  M i Robert F. WAYLAND Dr.
F ii Mary WAYLAND 1 was born in 1826 in , , Virginia.
F iii Sarah WAYLAND 1 was born in 1828 in , , Virginia.

She could be the Sarah Wayland who married Reuben M. Dobbs, bond dated June 18, 1850 (Madison Co. M.R. 1, p. 291); but, as no parents are given, this could easily be the Sarah M. Wayland, born 1829.
F iv Frances WAYLAND 1 was born in 1830 in , , Virginia. She died after 1850.

Unmarried and living with father on 1850 Census.
F v Caroline "Carrie" Matilda WAYLAND

Joseph WAYLAND was born about 1790 in , , Virginia. He died after 1850 in Kentucky. Joseph married Catharine SHAVER on 21 Jun 1812 in , Boone Co., Kentucky.

Settled in KY in 1808, according to son George's biography.

I am looking for any information you have regarding Joseph Wayland who married Catherine (Kitty) Shaver on June 21, 1812, in Boone County, Kentucky, by Michael Rouse, bonded by Abraham Vaughn, consent by her father, John Shavour. They had several children, Malinda, John, Finks, Richard, Lucy, and George Washington Wayland. I know that Kitty died before 1831. Do you have any information on these people?
I am really excited with the information you sent to me. I believe we might have a match. My ggg-grandparents were John Shaver and Elizabeth Pence. They had several children one of whom was Catherine (Kitty) who married Joseph Wayland. In John Shaver's will he listed his beloved daughter Kitty (Catherine )as being deceased. He went on to list his grandchildren and their names as inheriting Kitty's portion. The will was written in 1831. John Shaver went on to live until 1850. He died at the age of 105 in Boone County, Ky. I will send you a copy of the will if you would like to see it.
I am a descendent of Catherine(Kitty's) youngest sister, Jennetta.

Look under the Joseph Wayland, b. 1784, notes for further information. I don't see how he could be the same one as he already had two wives, Mary Rowland & Nancy Massie, and different children. I have another Joseph about same age who reportedly died unmarried. I have one who m. Rebecca ____ and I have no children for. I have one who had a different list of children and m. Patsy ____. All of these were born about the same time. I hope to find the line back on this Joseph some day. There is a Joseph listed in the Kentucky censuses 1820-1850. I have not looked up these to see if the age would be right.

Catharine SHAVER [Parents] "Kitty" was born in 1790. She died before 1831. Kitty married Joseph WAYLAND on 21 Jun 1812 in , Boone Co., Kentucky.

They had the following children:

  M i Alfred Finks WAYLAND
  M ii Richard WAYLAND
  F iii Malinda WAYLAND
M iv John Bennett WAYLAND was born on 12 Jun 1821. He died on 21 Aug 1854.

This man is a duplicate for the John Bennett Wayland who is the son of Joseph Wayland and Mary Rowland, with the same dates. It needs to be determined which is correct.
