ROBERT NELSON CREWS, M. D. Naturally a man's success in life is generally measured by his prestige in business, professional or social circles, and when he figures prominently in all it may be said that he has accomplished a great deal. Robert Nelson CREWS, M. D., one of the prominent citizens of Fulton, Missouri, has not been satisfied with attaining emminence in his chosen profession, but has also invaded the business field with unqualified success, and is widely known in fraternal circles as well. He is a native of Halifax County, Virginia, and was born September 11, 1871, his early education being secured in the public schools and the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College, at Blackburg. Subsequently he came to Missouri and
entered upon a medical course in the state university, following which he entered Barnes Medical College, from which he was graduated with the class of 1896. He then spent thriteen years in practice at Williamsburg, Missouri, and in 1909, after a post-graduate course in the Chicago Polyclinic Hospital, came to Fulton. The Doctor has an excellent practice and has attained an enviable position in his profession. He is a member of the Linton Distric Medical Society, the Callaway County Medical Society, the Missouri State Medical Society and the American Association, and is active in the work of each. For six years Dr. CREWS was a worshipful master of the Masonic blue lodge at Williamsburg, is high priest of Orion Chapter at Fulton, and became senior warden of Calvary Commandery. He has represented his lodge in the Grand Lodge of the state. Dr. CREWS married in 1901 to Jane Henderson YATES, daughter of William YATES, of MCCredie, Missouri, where Mrs. CREWS recieved excellent educational advantages, being schooled in literature and music. Four children have been born to Dr. and Mrs. CREWS: Martha Tate, Mary Emma, Sarah Randolph, and Carroll Kent. The family is connected to the Presbyterian Church, in which he is an elder, and in former years Mr. CREWS acted in the capacity of Sunday School superintendent. When the
Williamsburg Bank was organized, Dr. CREWS became its first president, and continued as such until removing to Fulton, where he is now director of the Callaway bank. In company with his brother-in-law, S. W. GILBERT, Dr. CREWS is interested in lands at Artesia, New Mexico, formerly an arid waste supposed to be of small value for agricultural purposes. The drilling of artesian wells. however, has so changed the community that the desert has blossomed forth as one of the finest orchard and alfalfa counties to be found in the United States, and the value of the land has increased commensurately. Dr. CREWS is the type of man of whom success comes as an apparent birthright, but in his case it has been won through persistant and well-directed effort. He has at all times favored progress, whether in the fields of medicine of business or in public life, and has had the welfare of his community continually at heart. During his long residence in
Missouri he has drawn about him a wide circle of friends, and no citizen is held in higher esteem.
