Placing this Edmund as a child of George is questionable.

It is difficult to identify this family. Sometime the census taker was lazy and used initials like this. He is found on p. 167 of the 1850 Howard Co. MO:

https://sites.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/howard/census/1850/167b.gif

Since he is right next to Joshua Terrill and the same age, he may be his twin.

Received this email:

"Another researcher and I have pieced together documentation regarding our common ancestor in Chariton Co MO (Edmund C. Terrill).

From Boone County Court, Kentucky, Guardian & Administrator Bonds 1820-1856, page 413. John Terrill was appointed guardian of his son George's infant orphans Wm. E, Edm' and Louisa Terrill. Dated September 4, 1834. I also have probate record from Howard Co MO that lists Edmund C and Louisa (Terrill) wife of Garrett Allen as brother & sister of the deceased William E. Terrill. (Maria Louisa TERRILL is her full name.) I have marriage records for Edmund & Louisa; I believe that William E. was never married. Evidently these were the only children of George C. & Nancy (CAVE) Terrill.

As you may know, Edmund C. Terrill was a witness to the prenuptial agreement of John Terrill & Mary (LACY) (TERRILL) TERRILL. I believe that he signed in the place of his deceased father George (who was John's eldest son). I sent you info regarding Edmund's marriage to Ann Elizabeth Cruse in Howard Co MO previously. Their daughter Nancy Louisa TERRILL married Fountain FOX - their son John William FOX Sr. married Emma Louise DREW - their son John William FOX Jr. married Madonna Mae TAYLOR - they were my parents.

Received note again 10/99 from :

"I have info on Louisa (TERRILL) Allen. She is the sister of Edmund C. Terrill and William Terrill. These 3 children are the sons & daughter of George C. Terrill & Nancy (CAVE) Terrill. George C. Terrill is the son of
John & Rebecca (CORNELIUS) Terrill. I have documents to prove this.

Also I sent an email with info on Edmund C. Terrill's daughter Nancy Louisa Terrill who married Fountain FOX. You have some of this info on you webpage. I notice that you mixed up my mother (Madonna M. Taylor). I am Goldie ANN (FOX) Christian. My parent's were John William FOX, Jr. who married Madonna M. TAYLOR. John FOX Jr. was the son of John William FOX, Sr. John Sr. married Emma Louise DREW. John FOX Sr. was the son of Fountain FOX who married Nancy Louisa TERRILL. Nancy was the daughter of Edmund C. Terrill & Ann Elizabeth CRUSE/CREWS. Edmund C. was a brother to William & Maria Louisa Terrill. William was never married that I know of. Maria Louisa TERRILL married Garrett J. ALLEN. Edmund C. TERRILL, William (E. I. or J) TERRILL, & Maria Louisa TERRILL were the children of George C. TERRILL & Nancy (CAVE). George C. was the son of John & Rebecca (CORNELIUS) TERRILL.

I have dates & locations for these relationships. I am not fully computerized though. I have copies of marriage records, will & probate, guardianship records, death certificates, newspaper obits, grave stone
photos, etc. Would be happy to share any and all infor that I have. I am very interested in getting my family line accurately to you for inputting into your TERRILL data base. I appreciate very much all your work and look forward to hearing from you. I am eager to get this info to you.

6/99:

My name is Ann Christian. This Terrill family is my line. Edmund C. Terrill married A. E. Crews (Ann Elizabeth I believe). I have Howard Co marriage record. Their child was Nancy Louisa. Nancy Louisa married Fountain Fox in Chariton Co. I have marriage record. Their son John William Fox Sr. married Emma Louise Drew in Chariton Co. I have marriage record. Their son John William Fox Jr. married Madonna Mae Taylor in Randolph Co. I have marriage record. John William Fox Jr. was my father.

I have been searching for 10 years for info on this Edmund. I have land records ( he bought land from Benjamin Terrill) and he is on the marriage contract of John Terrill and Mary Terrill (Robert's widow). I
believe that he may be the grandson of John & Rebecca (Cornelius). Perhaps the son of George & Nancy (Cave). George was deceased when John's will was written and the will only states "heirs of son" George; but does not list any names. I have no real evidence of this.

Mr. Harold Lynch listed E. C. & his wife A. E and the son of James & Susanna (Cave) Terrill. But I am not sure of this.

I don't know why Edmund was be signing on the marriage contract for John & Mary!!! I thought maybe that he could be one of the oldest grandchildren of John and be signing in place of his deceased father????

I am searching for info. I always seek documents to make sure info is factual. I don't know that Joshua & Edmund were twins. I have by doubts on that."

There is a Joshua W. Terrill who buys Chariton Co. land in 1851:

Ann Elizabeth CRUSE [Parents] was born in 1829 in , Howard Co., Missouri. She married Edmund C. TERRILL on 22 Nov 1847 in Howard Co., MO.

Spelled "Crews" at one point, But spelled "Cruse" on 1850 census, as there is a John Cruse with them. Also marriage records has her as "Amy Cruze." Spelled every which way. This may be related to her:

"History of Northeast Missouri" Edited by Walter Williams, Published by The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago Illinois 1913 Three Volumes, Page 1186:

[WILLIAM EDWARD CREWS. That enterprise and good management are well rewarded in the country life of Boone County needs no better illustration than the career of W. E. CREWS, whose fine homestead lies southeast of Columbia. About ten years ago he located on the part of his present farm and in the
beginning had practically nothing but the land. Combining cultivation of mixed crops and the raising of high-grade stock, he has developed a business that of itself would not be considered valuable as a growing
concern without reference to its capital investments. He has put up modern barns, a windmill, and all the equipment which goes with up-to-date farm management, and in 1909 erected his beautiful and comfortable country residence, a house heated by a furnace, lighted by acetylene gas, and with all the conveniences usually associated with urban dwelling. His farm consists of 530 acres and will compare favorably with any in Boone County.

Mr. CREWS was born about a mile and a half east of his present house, on his father's old place, April 17, 1860. His father was Walker CREWS, whose father, Charles CREWS, was on of the early settlers in this vicinity. Walker CREWS, who spent all his active career farming, died in 1873 or 1874 at the age of forty two. He married Parlee BARNES, and their four children were Alice, William Edward, Fannie and Essie. Parlee BARNES, the mother, was a daughter of Phillip BARNES, born in Kentucky, he came to Boone county during the pioneer period, entered land from the government, and at one time was the owner of 640 acres, his estate lying about twelve miles southeast of Columbia. His death occurred about 1864. Mr. BARNES was a democrat in politics and a member of the Baptist Church, his brother James being a minister in the denomination. He reared a large family of some ten or twelve children, one of whom was Parlee, the mother of Mr. CREWS. She was born in 1834 and died in 1909. After the death of her first husband, Walker CREWS, she married Thomas TURNER, who now resides near the home of his son, Matthew TURNER (see sketch elsewhere in this work) There were no children by the second marriage. Parlee (Barnes) CREWS was throughout her life devoted to the Baptist church and did much work in its cause.

Mr. W. E. CREWS was reared a farmer and has followed that solid occupation all his life. Having little capital at the start, he has made a success as a result of ability and industry that would have had equal
success in any other line of business. He raises all kinds of stock on his place, and has occasionally exhibited the choicest at the fairs. ON the last day of the year 1887, Mr. CREWS married Miss Maud ARTHUR, who was born in Callaway county Dec. 15, 1865. her father, Vincent ARTHUR came to Missouri from Virginia. Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. CREWS, namely: Allie; Arthur, a resident of Colorado, who married Margaret HUDSON; Leslie; Charles; William; and Sarah Maud. Mr. CREWS is a democrat and is an active member of the Methodist church.]

Also, the following may be related to her (and look at the one on Wayland page):

["History of Northeast Missouri" Edited by Walter Williams, Published by The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago Illinois 1913 Three Volumes, page 1872:

ZACH CREWS. Nearly sixty years of residence in Howard County have given Mr. Zach CREWS rank as one of the oldest living citizens of his vicinity. In Moniteau township he has long enjoyed the prestige as an able farmer and a man of influence in community affairs.

Born in Madison County, Kentucky, March 16, 1841, Mr. CREWS represents an old and prominent family. His great-grandfather, David CREWS, was born in England, whence he came to America in time to participate in the Revolution on the American side. During that pioneer era of the nation's history he
moved to the Kentucky region, where he had to build a blockhouse to protect his family from the Indians. His son, David Jr., married Sallie TRIBLE, whose father was a noted Baptist preacher who brought the gospel to the frontier settlements of Kentucky. Milton CREWS, the father of Mr. Zach CREWS, was a native of Madison County, and married Rhoda FOX, who was born in the same locality. They came to Missouri in 1842, but the father died some years later, and the widowed mother with her children then returned to Kentucky, where she remained until 1854, when the family again became domiciled in Howard county, which has been the home of Zach CREWS from that year to the present time. The children in this family were named as follows: Samuel, deceased; Isham; Richard; Mary J, deceased; Sallie A.; Zach; Milton; and W. P. The mother attained the age of eighty, having fulfilled a long and useful life and reared her children to useful and
honorable manhood and womanhood.

Zach CREWS spent his early life partly in Kentucky, and partly in Missouri. He obtained a fair amount of schooling, but best of all early learned how to work and live honorably with all men. During his early career he had some mercantile experience, but most of his life has been spent as a farmer, and in that line has been his best success.

When he was twenty-two he married Miss Matilda MEANS, daugther of James MEANS, one of the well known citizens of Howard county in the last generation. The three children born to their marriage are as follows: Anna, the wife of W. S. WHITE, Howard county; William, born in 1868 and died in 1904. in the midst of a promising career; and Zach Jr., who resides on the old homestead and is an expert farmer and stockman.

Mr. CREWS has a fine estate of three hundred and thirty two acres, representing the careful management and patient accumulations of his many years residence in Moniteau township. The blue-grass pastures, the grain fields, and the herds of fine stock all indicate first-class business methods, and as a profitable homestead this place has few superiors in the county. Mr. CREWS is a democrat in politics and a member of the Christian church, having served as treasurer of his home church for fourteen years.]
