After marrying Frances, John returned to Caddo Parrish, La. Her parents joined them there where William Cave died. John joined the Confederate cause during the Civil War and was killed in battle, Frances took her brother Franklin's children to raise, as his wife had died, and returned with her mother to their old home in MO where Franklin later joined them. Francis and Franklin conducted a private school in Moberly, GILMER Institute.
