OBIT FROM THE BELLEFONTAINE EXAMINER, FRIDAY, MARCH 23, 1900:

Enoch P. Terrell was born Oct. 25, 1827, near West Liberty, Ohio, and died in Bellefontaine March 12, 1900, aged 72 years, 4 months, and 17 days. He was married May 11, 1848, to Miss Hannah Wilder. To them was granted; under the blessing of God, a very long married life, nearly 52 years. Ten children were born to them, four of whom are dead. Of the surviving ones, four are daughters and two are sons.

The deceased had a long and honorable military career. He first enlisted in Co. G, 95th O.V.L., in which he was a Corporal. He was a member of the Bellefontaine Methodist Episcopal church. He had been a great sufferer from heart disease and had received warning, which he appreciated, that he would likely come to his end suddenly. So it turned out. Seemingly as well as usual, a severe attach of the heart disease came. He sought the open air that he might the more freely breathe the breath of his life. But his time had come. He could not rally this time. He realized it, bade his family goodbye and with a prayer fell asleep.

To God's care we yield him. To God's care also we commend the aged and feeble wife, these children and grandchildren. God is the only sure and sufficient support in every time of need.

This Family Page needs much more research. Some children's names do not appear on a census 1860 but appear on 1865 census sheets at younger ages. Some names appear on one and not the other. Three girls in 1860 are listed as Mary J., Margaret, and Marietta. Then in 1865 as Marvilla, Malinda, and Malissa. Ages and calculated birth dates are different in both census as well. Until this matter is settled the three girls will appear on the family page with both sets of names and a ?. It would appear that what we have are two different families or a monstrous bureaucratic mistake.

FROM: The Perry Mirror, Perry, Kansas, September 29, 1898, Thursday, page 4, column 1

William Terrell, an old citizen of this township, who lived two miles east of here, committed suicide last Saturday morning by hanging. He had been acting strangely for the past three years and especially for two years since kicked by a horse.

He prepared for his death, however in a rarefull [careful?] manner, but when found his feet were still touching the cultivator, upon which he stood while adjusting the rope. A coroner's inquest was held Saturday afternoon, and the verdict was in accordance with the above facts. The remains of William Terrell were buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery on Sunday.

More About WILLIAM P. TERRELL:
Burial: September 25, 1898, Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry, Kansas
Cause of Death: Suicide by hanging
Military service: Served Union in Civil War
Relationships: Unless the census was not correctly done (it does contain a considerable number of mistakes), William by his birth year of 1821 could not be the same William of Josiah and Sarah, who was born in 1832. The 1860 Missouri census list his birth year 1811.

Mahala was born in 1843 in MO. She married William P. TERRILL.

Relationship: If she was born in 1832, she could be mother of all William's children and the birth order in the 1865 census makes sense.
Relationships: If birth year of 1843 is correct, she can not be the mother of 3 or 4 of children listed here; Malinda, Sylvestor, Malissa, and likely Sanford. Therefore, she may be the 2nd wife of William. However, 1860 census says born in 1832.
