Served as a member of the Kentucky State Legislature 1867-70. Biography is in "Perrin's History of Kentucky" 1887, edit. Boone Co., Kty. Section, p. 898. Reportedly served in the Confederate Army. Here is bio:

"Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed.,
1887, Boone Co.

HON. GEORGE W. TERRILL, a native of Boone County, Ky., was born in
1827. His father was John Terrill, of Virginia, who moved to Kentucky
when five years of age, with his father, John Terrill, Sr. After
living near Maysville, Ky., for some years, he moved to Boone County.
He was born in 1799, was a farmer by occupation, and died in 1873. One
of the early members of this family was an officer in the Revolutionary
war. They are of English ancestry. Our subject was one of a family of
nine children, only two of whom are now living, the other a brother,
Joshua. George W. Terrill was reared on the farm, and educated in the
common schools. He has followed farming most all his life, and is the
owner of a splendid farm on the Burlington and Petersburg pike. He was
a member of the Legislature from Boone County in 1869-70, in which
capacity he served with credit to himself and the county. He was
captain in the Confederate Army, in Company G, Fifth Kentucky Cavalry,
where he served twelve months, but, on account of failing health, he
returned home. In 1847 he married Miss Amanda Wallin, daughter of
Simon Wallin, of Mason County, Ky., who died in 1884, leaving eight
children: Adelaide V., Simon E., John L., William R., Lucy, Joshua D.,

William Huff, of Boone County. She is a member of the Methodist
Episcopal CHurch, and her husband is a member of the Christian Church."

Amanda M. WALTON was born on 9 Apr 1827 in , Mason Co., Kentucky. She died on 21 Aug 1885 in , Boone Co., Kentucky and was buried in Petersburg Cem.. Amanda married George W. TERRILL Capt. on 19 May 1847 in , Mason Co., Kentucky.

The biography on her husband George gives her surname as "Wallin." Since it was written while they were still alive, I wonder if that might be right.

They had the following children:

  F i Adelaide Victoria TERRILL
  M ii Simeon Edward TERRILL
M iii Edward TERRILL was born in Nov 1852. He died on 15 Jun 1885 and was buried in Petersburg Cem..

Relationship assumed from the fact that he is buried with Goerge & Amanda.

WILLIAM R. TERRILL was born in Boone County, Ky., near Dry Run, about three miles below Florence, April 20, 1854, and is the fourth of ten children born to George W. Terrill and Amanda M. Terrill, the daughter of Simeon Walton. George W. Terrill, a native of Boone County, has followed farming and trading all his life, and is still a resident of Boone County. He took sides with the South in the late contest, and bore the rank of captain in John Morgan's command. He represented his native county in the Legislature in 1870 and 1871. His wife died August 21, 1885. William R. Terrill was brought up on the farm, and in early life attended the high schools of Boone County. He went to school to Miss Ida Lloyd, and Lloyd (the civil engineer), Miss Kate Willis, John Walton, Capt. Elliott, John Brown, Prof. Holton, John Woodford, Prof. Cregg Peck, who is now surveyor in Trimble, also J. Frank Grant and Alonzo Vorball, all of whom are the best of teachers. In 1870 he entered college at Eminence, Ky. The next year he went to Prof. Lowery, a graduate of Virginia University, who taught at Petersburg. In 1872 he returned to Eminence College, and continued till [sic] 1874. In 1875 he was examined for teacher, and taught one term at Morgan Academy, at Burlington, and also taught at Petersburg. He then taught mathematics and philosophy at Ghent College, in Carroll County, in 1877, and in 1878 he was elected surveyor of Boone County, and served one term of four years. In 1880 he commenced to carry the United States mail from Burlington to Erlanger, and served in that capacity until 1884. He has followed surveying and civil engineering, and does the greater part of the surveying for Boone County. He owns some
valuable property in Florence, and also runs a livery stable. He is a member of the Christian Church. Politically he is a Democrat.

Ann HUFF was born about 1835. She married George W. TERRILL Capt. in 1887.

William H. TERRILL [Parents] was born on 27 Aug 1829. He died in 1883/1887. William married Norah A. COOPER.

There is a William C. Terrill (b. Kty.) and family in the 1850 Randolph Co. MO census, but doubt that it is the same one. There is a William H. Terrill as age 41 in the Boone Co. Kty. cenus, a physician, and I think that this is that one and have put the family listed in the census under him. There was also in the family a Rebecca Cooper, age 65, most likely his wife's mother, and I have guessed and put this as her maiden name.

After the above, I found a William H. Terrill who m. Jennie Cooper in Howard Co., MO 15 June 1884.

The biography on his brother George would seem to indicate that Wm. was not alive at the time of its being written in 1887.

Norah A. COOPER was born on 5 May 1832 in , , Kentucky. She died on 17 Jan 1882 and was buried in Petersburg Cem., Boone Co., Kentucky. Norah married William H. TERRILL.

Ellsberry has tombstone as giving her name as "Norris A."

They had the following children:

  M i William M. TERRILL
M ii John B. TERRILL was born in 1854 in , , Indiana.

Robert Quinby TERRILL [Parents] was born on 30 Jul 1834. He died on 29 May 1867 in , Boone Co., Kentucky. Robert married Catherine RIDDLE.

Had seven children; four died young. Listed are the three known with birth dates which are estimated and may be off considerably. Buried in Petersburg Cem. is a "George W. Terrill, son of Robt. & Kate, d. Nov. 24, 1864, age 4 mos" and "Robert W., son of Robt. & Kate, d. June 11, 1862"

Catherine RIDDLE was born about 1835. She married Robert Quinby TERRILL.

They had the following children:

  F i Nannie TERRILL was born in 1857 in , , Kentucky.
M ii Lewis TERRILL was born in 1860 in , , Indiana.

Listed as being in household of his grandparents John and Nancy Terrill in the 1870 Boone Co., Kty. Census and age 10, b. Indiana. His father had died 3 years earlier. He is also found in the same census in the household of his mother along with his two sisters, and the same age, but b. Kentucky. There is a possibility that the Lewis in his grandparents home was another grandchild.
F iii India TERRILL was born in 1867 in , , Kentucky.

Joshua Cornelius TERRILL [Parents] was born on 1 Dec 1840 in Petersburg, Boone Co., Kentucky. He died on 10 Dec 1909 in Lamar, , Indiana. Joshua married Mary Francis Sharp OSBORNE on 3 Nov 1864 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The marriage ended in divorce.

Had 8 children by Mary and then was divorced 1888 Davies Co., Kty. and remarried. No known children by second wife.

Mary Francis Sharp OSBORNE was born on 15 Nov 1842. She died on 25 Mar 1917 in , Davies Co., Kentucky. Mary married Joshua Cornelius TERRILL on 3 Nov 1864 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The marriage ended in divorce.

Her name is given as "Mary Francis Osborne Sharp" by Ellsberry, and she may have been married previously to a Sharp prior to marrying Joshua.

Robert Walton TERRILL [Parents] was born in 1838 in , , Kentucky. He married Annie Elizabeth TUGGLE on 16 Sep 1860 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

Found as head of household in the 1870 Chariton Co. MO census, with wife and children as listed here. There were probably more children.

He is also found in the 1880 Randolpy Co., MO census at:

In 10/98 I received the following email:

My Grandmother was Annie Lou Terrill and her father Robert Walton Terrill.
His father was Robert Terrill, his father John Terrill. They lived near
Higbee in both Randolph and Howard Co. John was buried on his farm near Armstrong in 1850. Now that my credentials have been established I am
searching for any info on the Terrill family in Missouri. I pretty well have my direct line covered except for Robert the son of John and haven't found much on him except that he came to Mo from Ky. Haven't found much on the other Terrills in the area. Any help will be appreciated and let me know if I can reciprocate.

Robert served the Confederacy during the Civil War as a Private in Co. 1 of Williams Missouri Calvary. He was captured in the battle of New Orleans on
May 26, 1865 and paroled in Shreveort, LA on June 16 1865. He attended the ex- confederate reunion in Moberly, MO in Sep 1881. Although Robert graduated from medical school, he had a stroke and never practiced medicine. Robert also had "granulation of the linds" [lens in eyes?] and could only see by holding his eyes open with his fingers. He made a living selling "Dr. Terrill's White Liniment", his own concoction for cuts, bruises and other ailments. This product was used both on man and beasts. Of their children, Robert Walton and Annie Elizabeth are buried in Ebenezer Cemetary near Higbeen At least 5 children are buried a short distance away in the Higbee City Cemetary.

I looked in the book, "Shades of Gray", by Neil Block, which has information only on the Confederate veterans of Randolph Co. It has this on him:

"Terrill, Robert Walton Pvt., Co. I (letter I which comes after H) Williams' MO. Cavalry. Surrendered at New Orleans, LA on May 26, 1865 and was paroled at Shreveport, LA on June 14, 1865. Lists Chariton County as his home. Attended the reunion of Ex-Confederates at Moberly in September of 1881 and was living in Higbee, MO at that time. He was born in 1838 and died in 1891. Robert is buried in the Ebeneezer Church cemetery west of Higbee. Also buried here are the unmarked graves of Confederate Soldiers that were killed at the Battle of Silver Creek, January 8, 1862. Ref: CSR, MRR, Family Records."

The front of the book identifies CSR as "Confederate Service Records" and MRR as "Moberly Reunion Records, 1881."

Annie Elizabeth TUGGLE was born in 1844. She married Robert Walton TERRILL on 16 Sep 1860 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

Wedding is given as 6 Sep 1860 elsewhere.

They had the following children:

  F i Sarah TERRILL was born in 1861 in , , Missouri.
F ii Alice R. TERRILL was born in 1863 in , , Missouri.
F iii Frances TERRILL was born about 1864. She died about 1864.
F iv Martha "Mattie" TERRILL was born in 1865 in , , Missouri.
F v Aba Belle TERRILL was born about 1867.
  F vi Annie Lou TERRILL
M vii Charles William "Charley" TERRILL
M viii James Robert TERRILL was born about 1878.
M ix William Irving TERRILL was born about 1880.

John P. TERRILL [Parents] was born in 1845 in , , Missouri. He married Lutitia.

Found as head of household in the 1870 Chariton Co. MO census with wife and children as listed here; there were probably more children.

Lutitia was born in 1842. She married John P. TERRILL.

They had the following children:

  F i Hattie TERRILL was born in 1866 in , , Missouri.
F ii Lillie M. TERRILL was born in 1868 in , , Missouri.
F iii Mary M. TERRILL was born in 1869 in , , Missouri.

Joshua W. TERRILL [Parents] was born in 1848 in , , Missouri. He married Leona Joyce CARVER.

On 1880 census his occupation is listed as school teacher.

Some confusion between him and the Rev. Joshua W. Terrill #2880.

There was a write-up in the "Mt. Pleasant Assoc." section of the book,
"A History of Baptists in Missouri" by R. S. Duncan, 1882. It was republished by: "Church History, Research & Archives, Rt.4, Box 38, Lafayette, TN 37083." It mentions "Joshua W. Terrill" as being on church committees with Benjamin Terrill and others. It says that he was also a minister. Benjamin and Joshua were "first cousins, one generation removed."

The following from "The Huntsville Herald" paper may be his child, or one of #2880:

Terrill, Hugh -- died 8 Sep 1873, aged about 15y, at Roanoke supposedly from heart disease, son of Joshua Terrill; THH 10 Sep 1873

I received this email 2/00:

John, I enjoyed your website.
My husband is descended from Simeon Edward Terrill, school teacher, twin brother to Joshua W. Terrill, also school teacher. They not only were twins, they were identical, and played practical jokes on each other's classrooms. They did marry young girls who were sisters. Simeon married Sarah Carver, and Joshual married her younger sister, Leona Joyce Carver, so of course, their children were double cousins. My mother-in-law got confused, because of a birth certificate for the other Simeon Terrill and submitted George Terrill as the father in Ancestral File, but you submitted the proper parents, Robert Terrill and Malinda Walton.
Thanks,
Patricia Terrill

Leona Joyce CARVER was born in 1864. She married Joshua W. TERRILL.

She is listed as being age 16 with 3 month old daughter, married to her 32 year old school teacher husband on the 1880 census.

They had the following children:

F i Lenora A. TERRILL was born in 1880 in , Chariton Co., Missouri.

Simeon Edward TERRILL [Parents] was born in 1848. He married Sarah J. CARVER.

The years of birth for Simeon and Joshua were the same on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census...must have been twins. He is listed as school teacher, like his twin brother. Both twin brothers married rather late and to very young girls. Found on 1880 Chariton Co. MO census, age 32, b. MO., both parents b. Kty., wife Sarah age 19, and Alfred L., age 1.
