Aubrey L. BURY was born about 1872. He married Lois PHARR about 1895.

A brother of his was killed in her home 17 Oct 1907 due to gas...see Pharr6.jpg news article. Lois detected odor and was first to discover his body.

Lois PHARR [Parents] was born about 1875. She died in 1900. Lois married Aubrey L. BURY about 1895.

Her marriage announcment is in an old newspaper clipping (but no date):

"Yesterday at high noon Mr. A. L. Bury, of New York, and Miss Lois Pharr were quietly married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Pharr, of this place, in the presence of only the immediate relatives of the family, with Rev. C.W. Robinson officiating. The parlor was very tastily decorated with beautiful evergreens. A luncheon was served after which the happy couple left for Newark, N.J., where they will reside in the future. The bride is a very pleasing and attractive young woman, and leaves behind a ___ of well wishing friends."

Another clipping with a date of "October 17, 1907" on it states:

"A letter from Mrs. A.L. Bury, of Newark, New Jersey, formerly Miss Lois Pharr, to her parents here, states that a brother-in-law of hers was asphyxiated in her home a few days ago, by a bursting gas pipe. She detecting an odor was first to discover the man's body."

Dr. A.D. EDWARDS was born about 1880. He married Maude PHARR on 8 Nov 1904.

At his wedding, it said, "Those attending from a distance were Miss Cowles, of Statesville [NC]; W. E. Pharr, of Salisbury [NC]; Dr. Edwards of Bristol, Tenn.; and Mr. George Edwards, of Winston [Winston-Salem, NC].

Maude PHARR [Parents] [scrapbook] was born on 16 Dec 1882 in NC. She died on 6 Sep 1979 in NC. Maude married Dr. A.D. EDWARDS on 8 Nov 1904.

Have several of her photos, maude.jpg, etc. Have news article of her wedding also. She broke her hip at age 89 in 1972, and then again 9 Jan 1978, at age 95. This is from writing on the back of an envelope in family things. We bought several things at an auction of her son's estate in 1/00. Below is her wedding announcement, a newspaper clipping with no date:

"Edwards-Pharr
Tuesday at high noon at the residence of the bride's parents in Wilkesboro, Dr. A.D. Edwards was married to Miss Maud Pharr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Pharr. Only a few friends and relatives were present. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C.W. Robinson and Miss Sarah Cowles, of Statesville, presided at the piano. Little Miss Nellie White was flower girl and was dressed in white silk.
The bride and groom left on the train Tuesday to visit the World's fair at St. Louis, and then they will go to Baltimore where they will spend the winter, Dr. Edwards taking lectures at a medical college there.
Dr. Edwards is a popular young physician and he has won for his bride one of the foremost young ladies of our towns. Both have many friends who congratulate them."

In the 1820 Census there is found John Miller. In the census are found males: one age 0-10, one age 10-16, one age 16-18, two age 18-26, one age 45+ (John). Female: one age 0-10, two age 10-16, and one age 45+. He would be age 54, and wife would be age 44, so it is correct for him and one year off for her.

The Wendell book says, "John MIller is the forefather of a Legion of People scattered throughout the US. His son Dewalt moved to Illinois, where many Millers are living today. His son Peter moved to Wilkes Co., NC, and the Millers are still in that area along Fishing Creek. Several of Peter's sons moved their family to Utah, and became active members of the Mormon Church."

Fay Geick sent me this in 10/98:

......Here is some more info on John J. In 1805 he and wife Eliz. purchased a tract of land from the heirs of Lawrence Lingle adjoining the Lower Stone church. At that time the church was known as the Presbyterian Meeting house which such named on the deed granted to John and Eliz. Miller. The Millers were members of Organ Lutheran church but also attended Lower Stone (a church near their home) due to the fact that Organ church conducted services on one sunday and Lower Stone church were having their services on the following sunday. Lawrence Lingle was granted the said tract of land from the English Government on Dec. 21, 1761 by John Earl Granville Viscount Carteret. .....Interesting Huh?? I will send you more next time.

"The following account of the marriage of Miss Lillian Pharr to Mr. F.E. Harless in Wilkesboro Wednesday we take from the Patriot. The publishers of this paper are brothers to the bride:
Mr. Fulton E. Harless and Miss Lillian Pharr two popular young people of this place sprang a surprise upon their many friends by quietly getting married yesterday afternoon. The ceremony took place at 5 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Pharr, with Rev. C.W. Robinson, the bride's pastor, officiating. There were present only the immediate relatives. After the ceremony the wedding party repaired to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Died at age 21. He had seizures regularly. He was stumbling with having one on the streets of North Wilkesboro. A policeman thought he was drunk and hit him over the head with a blackjack and killed him. Shirley thought he had died at age 16. But on back of photo is written someone wrote years ago some figures subtracting 1912 from 1933 with the result of 21...they had to be figuring his age at the time of death.
