Walsh's Regiment of the Irish Brigade (of France) served under the command of Count Charles d' Estaing
during the battle of Savannah, Georgia in October, 1779. Lieutenant Colonel Lynch, of Walsh’s Regiment,
distinguished himself at Savannah while serving as an aide to the Count deSegur. At the decisive in the
battle of Yorktown in September, 1781, Walsh’s Regiment provided many soldiers to serve as shipboard
marines in deGrasse’s [de Grassi] French fleet blockading the harbour.
The Régiment de Walsh was created by Charles II in 1661, and was incorporated in France by James II by 1698. Le régiment de Walsh (irlandais), au Sénégal, aux Antilles, à Savannah, à Tobago. Sous la Révolution, il devint le 92e régiment d'infanterie métropolitaine.
Thomas WALSH, son of Thomas Walsh and Margaret McGinnis, served as a
private, under Captain Thomas Posey's 7th Virginia Regiment, under the
command of Col. Alexander McClenachan. Thomas Walsh was born in
Boteourt Coounty, Virginia in 1750 and is buried in Montgomery
County, Virginia. His father arrived in Virginia from Waterford, Ireland
in 1740.
Luke Walsh, was a Lieutenant in the 60th Regiment.
