I am trying to trace information about my maternal great grandfather Michael WALSH (Irish, Catholic family) and my grandfather Patrick Thomas WALSH born 16 December 1873 Waterside, Burnely Road, Bacup, Lancashire.
Michael's wife (Patrick's mother) was Ellen WALSH (Nee DOYLE).
Patrick (who died before I was born) married my much loved Grandmother Annie Walsh (born 1881, died 1958. maiden name White - possibly of Sligo area). Patrick and Annie gave birth to my mother Elizabeth Suthers (nee Walsh) on 14 February 1908.

My name is John (Jack) Walsh and I live in Rochester New York. My G-G-Grandfather, Henry J WALSH was born to Timothy and Catharine COMERFORD WALSH on 7/20/1860 in Syracuse NY. Henry died in Syracuse 11/8/1932, but lived mostly in the Rochester NY area. The death certificate indicates that his parents were both born in Ireland. Timothy and Catherine had another son, Frank A Walsh who also lived in Syracuse and a daughter Marian. I went to Ireland in 8/97 and would love to return next year to find my ancestors.

My grandfather is Leonard William Walsh, he was born on 14 December 1902 at Fall River, Massachusetts. The birth was recorded in 1905 which does leave some uncertainty as to whether he lied about his age to join the Merchant Marine as a teen-ager. His father was called Bill, although my grandfather claims he is his father's namesake. His mother was Clara HEWITSON. His father is believed to have emigrated from Ireland, but when is unknown. My grandfather's siblings, also believed to have been born in Massachusetts, are Mary Ann, born on February 1, 1901, a sister referred to both as Nora and Clara who burned to death when only a few years old; and possibly two brothers believed to be named William and Albert respectively.
Leonard describes a life as a teenager in the Merchant Marine along the Great Lakes. He spent much time in Ontario, Canada, and married Marie Edna Parent at Port Mcnichol, Ontario Canada on August 14, 1923. The entire family is Roman Catholic. The family "legend" is Aunt Annie Smith who is reported to have been a fur trapper/trader probably in far northeast U.S. or in Canada. It is unknown if she is of Walsh or Hewitson lineage.
We are trying very hard to find some Walsh connections. About 1926, Leonard and Marie Edna settled in Detroit, Michigan, which is where both of them died. All family connections that we know of are still in Massachusetts. Grandad was very secretive about his family, we know he had one love child from his teen years who goes by the last name of Knight and is believed to still live in Massachusetts.
Please contact AnnMarie at bevrpond@monumental if you have any leads. We are particularly looking for confirmation of my grandfather's father's name, date of birth of both of his parents, marriage date, sibling information for him and his parents, and when this Walsh branch first came to North America from Ireland.
